READING, Pa – State lawmakers have until the fall before law enforcement will need to start removing these machines.<\/p>\n
Pennsylvania’s highest court says all those so-called “skill machines” that seem to be everywhere nowadays unlawful.<\/p>\n
Governor Josh Shapiro reacted to the ruling.<\/p>\n
“I think we all knew we had to do something to regulate and tax skill games,” said Governor Josh Shapiro. “What I’d encourage the Republican leadership in the Senate to do is work with the Democratic leadership in the Senate and see what kind of package can get 26 votes in their chamber and get that bill to my desk.\u201d<\/p>\n
There are many businesses as well as nonprofits like VFW’s and fire social halls that have these machines.<\/p>\n
“The proliferation of skill machines has gotten to the point where its outta control,” District Attorney John Adams said. “Skill machines are not taxed are not regulated.”<\/p>\n
But what about those non-profits like the VFW’s that use these machines to fund their organizations?<\/p>\n
“Clearly, we’re hoping that the legislature carves out an exception for clubs and when I use the term clubs, I’m talking the nonprofit clubs, the fire companies the American Legions, the social clubs,” Adams said. “I think if they’re in our social clubs our fire halls, I have no issue with that whatsoever and I think it needs to continue to be a revenue source for our social clubs and nonprofits.”<\/p>\n
Adams says there are thousands of unregulated machines across the commonwealth, and the state is missing out on big money.<\/p>\n
