A 16-year-old was shot and killed after getting into an argument with another young person in Upper Darby, Delaware County, on Sunday, police said.<\/p>\n
The incident occurred during an argument between the young people just before 3 p.m. on May 18, 2025, in the area of Long Lane and Pine Street, police said.<\/p>\n
The victim was shot in the back, according to police, and was pronounced dead after being taken to the hospital. <\/p>\n
Late Sunday night, Upper Darby police release surveillance video that they say shows “the subject is wanted in connection with a shooting incident.”<\/p>\n
That person — seen wearing a hoodie and satchel and appearing to hold a phone — is seen walking and running in the images.<\/p>\n
Police say they are in contact with the Upper Darby School District and working with them to them to provide resources and support for the victim\u2019s family, students and staff.<\/p>\n
The mayor of Upper Darby, Edward Brown, shared a statement to the community on Monday that reads:<\/p>\n
“Less than two months ago, I shared the heartbreaking news of the death of an Upper Darby High School student who was shot and killed.\u00a0Tragically, I find myself reaching out once again with similar, devastating news.\u00a0Yesterday, another young life was lost\u2014another Upper Darby student, just sixteen years old, was shot and killed in our township.\u00a0I want to extend my deepest and most sincere condolences to the victim\u2019s family, friends, classmates, and all who knew and loved him. My heart breaks for your loss. There are no words that can ease your pain, but please know that you are not alone. Our entire community grieves with you.\u00a0These kinds of tragedies are becoming far too common, but that does not make them any less painful\u2014or any more acceptable. We must come together as a community to ensure that people of all ages, especially our youth, feel safe, supported, and valued. Violence is never the answer. We have to do better. And we can do better\u2014together.\u00a0In the meantime, if anyone has any information related to this incident, I urge you to contact the Upper Darby Police Department at 610-734-7693. No word on whether a suspect is in custody at this time. <\/p>\n
