The budget<\/a> requires a 3.5% hike in property taxes beginning July 1.<\/p>\nProperty owners in the district currently pay a tax rate of 37.0024 mills.<\/p>\n
With a 3.5% increase, the taxes will rise to 38.2975 mills, meaning a property assessed at $100,000 would have an annual tax bill of $3,830.<\/p>\n
The tax increase was needed to close a budget gap to submit a balanced budget to the state by June 30.<\/p>\n
Board member John T. Fidler voted against the budget, and board members Ann M. Hearing, Andrea Battler and Anne-Marie Yocum-Grill were absent.<\/p>\n
The board also approved a resolution to continue collecting a per capita tax of $5 from every resident in the district.<\/p>\n
In other business, the board voted to elect Christy M. Haller as district superintendent for a new five-year commission from July 1 through June 30, 2031, and enter a contract to set salary and benefits.<\/p>\n
Haller was hired as superintendent in 2022 with a four-year contract, which is expiring at the end of this month.<\/p>\n
The salary for the new contract was not immediately available.<\/p>\n
Haller said she is grateful for the opportunity and the privilege to continuing leading the district as superintendent.<\/p>\n
