DUQUESNE, Pa. \u2014 Residents in Duquesne got their first look at a proposal that would reshape the city\u2019s government.<\/p>\n
The Duquesne Government Study Commission hosted a public forum on Monday for the city\u2019s proposed home rule charter. <\/p>\n
If approved by voters, the charter would serve as Duquesne\u2019s own constitution, defining the powers, structure and other aspects of the municipal government.<\/p>\n
Officials project that the new framework would increase efficiency, accountability and transparency.<\/p>\n
It would also give the community more flexibility to govern itself and address local issues.<\/p>\n
Commission members want residents to know what\u2019s in the charter before they vote on it later this year.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe want people\u2019s input so that in November they know what they\u2019re voting about,\u201d said Kirsten Pastrick, chair of the Duquesne Government Study Commission. \u201cThey know why the home rule charter may be a good thing for Duquesne. They have to decide.\u201d<\/p>\n
The commission will now make a final proposal to be voted on in November. <\/p>\n
