{"id":222316,"date":"2026-06-18T14:56:45","date_gmt":"2026-06-18T14:56:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/222316\/"},"modified":"2026-06-18T14:56:45","modified_gmt":"2026-06-18T14:56:45","slug":"worlds-most-beautiful-airports-pittsburgh-international-airport","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/222316\/","title":{"rendered":"World&#8217;s Most Beautiful Airports: Pittsburgh International Airport"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT) has been included in the 2026 Prix Versailles list of the World\u2019s Most Beautiful Airports, placing its recently opened terminal alongside six other airport projects recognised for architecture, design and passenger experience.<\/p>\n<p>The annual awards programme, organised by Prix Versailles in association with UNESCO, selected Pittsburgh International Airport\u2019s new terminal as one of seven airport facilities highlighted this year.<\/p>\n<p>Opened in November 2025, <a href=\"https:\/\/airportindustry-news.com\/pittsburgh-international-airport-opens-new-1-7-billion-terminal\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the new terminal<\/a> forms part of a 1.7 billion USD modernisation programme at Pittsburgh International Airport. The 811,000-square-foot facility was designed by Gensler and HDR in association with luis vidal + architects.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-3016539\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Picture1-scaled.png\" alt=\"Pittsburgh International Airport New Terminal Interior\" width=\"2560\" height=\"2008\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>Pittsburgh International Airport New Terminal Interior<\/p>\n<p>\u00a9 Pittsburgh International Airport<\/p>\n<p>In its selection, Prix Versailles acknowledged that the terminal\u2019s sweeping roofline draws inspiration from the surrounding landscape, while its design incorporates natural elements intended to connect indoor and outdoor environments. The building features 38 steel columns designed to resemble trees, extensive glass walls allowing natural daylight into the terminal, and outdoor terraces that will provide passengers with access to fresh air.<\/p>\n<p>The organisation also cited the airport\u2019s energy-efficiency measures, reduced walking distances for passengers and accessibility-focused features as factors in its selection.<\/p>\n<p>Christina Cassotis, chief executive of Pittsburgh International Airport, said:<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__quote-text\">Being named to the Prix Versailles World\u2019s Most Beautiful Airports List is an extraordinary honour and a testament to the vision, talent and determination of everyone who helped bring our new terminal to life. This terminal was built by Pittsburghers, for Pittsburgh. It showcases our region\u2019s innovation, craftsmanship and hospitality while creating an airport experience that reflects the character and pride of our community.<\/p>\n<p>The airport\u2019s design incorporates references to western Pennsylvania, including artwork by local artists and a pedestrian tunnel inspired by Pittsburgh\u2019s Fort Pitt Tunnel.
