An 11-year-old e-bike rider was seriously injured when he collided with a car Thursday morning in Clarks Summit, according to Clarks Summit police chief Christopher Yarns.<\/p>\n
The incident took place near the intersection of Earl Street and Harwood Avenue just after 10 a.m., Yarns said.<\/p>\n
The driver of the vehicle was distraught and couldn\u2019t provide a full statement to police, the chief said. The investigation is ongoing<\/p>\n
.The juvenile was riding with several other juvenile e-bike riders, who left the scene and who police are trying to locate, with help from family members.<\/p>\n
He was taken to Geisinger Community Medical Center and is expected to be transported to another facility for specialized treatment this afternoon.<\/p>\n
A state police reconstruction team was called to the scene and is investigating, along with local police.<\/p>\n
Yarns reminded the public that it is illegal to operate an e-bike on a public road if you are under 16. Those 16 and over who are operating the bikes are required to comply with all traffic laws.<\/p>\n
Yarns said his officers have been issuing warnings followed by citations.<\/p>\n
