The Navarre-Bethlehem Township Historical Society held its annual garage sale with donations of plants and other items from the community.

The society participated in the Memorial Day parade, driving its 1923 antique fire truck in honor of military personnel who died while serving their country.

Since the United States is celebrating 250 years of independence July 4, the society has decorated the Mathews Museum and hopes the community will visit and enjoy it. Uniforms from the Navy, Army and Marines are on display, along with other memorabilia.

The museum is open for tours from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesdays. Those who need a different time may call 330-879-5938 and leave a message. Someone will return the call.

Society members are at the museum every Wednesday, working, assessing donated items, filing and researching properties and the history of relatives who lived in Navarre. Those who have old photos of relatives or homes are invited to share them for the society’s files.

The society accepts aluminum cans as donations. Cat food cans are no longer accepted.

The next monthly meeting is 10 a.m. July 8.

Want more local news? Get top stories from your area delivered to your inbox.
