The CAF AirPower History Tour<\/a> arrived at Wilkes-Barre\/Scranton International Airport<\/a> in Avoca this week. The event brought legendary World War II aircraft to Northeastern Pennsylvania. Aviation enthusiasts gathered at AVP Airport for a rare opportunity to experience historic warbirds up close.<\/p>\n

DiscoverNEPA toured several aircraft already on site. Highlights included the iconic B-29 Superfortress \u201cFIFI,\u201d the PT-13 Stearman and the T-6 Texan. Seeing these aircraft on the ground offered a unique perspective. Visitors could appreciate the engineering, craftsmanship and history behind some of the world\u2019s most famous warbirds.<\/p>\n

The highlight of the AirPower History Tour is undoubtedly \u201cFIFI.\u201d It is one of only two airworthy B-29 Superfortresses remaining in the world. First flown in 1942, the B-29 was among the most advanced aircraft of its time. It played a major role in the final years of World War II. The Commemorative Air Force has spent decades preserving the aircraft and sharing its story with audiences across the country.<\/p>\n

Visitors can view historic aircraft up close and tour select cockpits. They can also purchase rides aboard participating aircraft. Additional warbirds are expected to arrive throughout the weekend. Planned arrivals include the P-26, P-51 Mustang and PT-26B.<\/p>\n

For aviation fans, history buffs and photographers, the AirPower History Tour at AVP Airport offers an unforgettable look at living aviation history.<\/p>\n
