OREGON, Ohio (WTVG) – U.S. Sen. Jon Husted met with conservation leaders at Maumee Bay State Park for a Great Lakes conservation roundtable. They discussed how to protect Lake Erie and build on a fisheries research law that Husted helped pass.<\/p>\n
The meeting brought together fishermen and representatives from the Department of Natural Resources. <\/p>\n
\u201cWe assembled people from all the wildlife groups, scientists, researchers and people from agricultural community to talk about what we can do to continue to make the Great Lakes flourish and make our state the best it can be,\u201d Husted said.<\/p>\n
Husted said he believes the ideas and concerns shared at the meeting will drive outcomes that improve the state economically and toward the environment.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe got to have wonderful natural places and Lake Erie is one of those,\u201d Husted said. \u201cWe attract birders here by the tens of thousands who are part of the local economy, we attract fishermen who like to be on the Lake for recreation. It\u2019s a huge part of the economy because not only does it make it wonderful for people to live here but it also attracts people from all across the country who bring tourism dollars here. It improves the overall quality of life for people who call Ohio home.\u201d<\/p>\n
After the meeting, Husted said he was hopeful they can build upon the discussions.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have come a long way and we will keep the momentum going,\u201d Husted said.<\/p>\n
