What is a CSA, and how can you be a part of one?\u00a0<\/p>\n

The acronym stands for Community Supported Agriculture. <\/a>In short, it is a way for community members to connect to local farmers. A CSA member pays upfront for a \u201cshare\u201d of a farmer\u2019s upcoming harvest, and in return, they\u2019ll get access to regular produce or other farm-fresh food during the season.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Every CSA is different \u2013 meaning there can be different availability by season, different fruits, veggies, and other products available, different costs, and different delivery and pickup options.\u00a0<\/p>\n

But, CSAs can often add up to be cheaper for the consumer, and can help support farmers as part of the \u201cshare\u201d money goes toward agricultural costs like seeds, equipment maintenance and labor.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Philly has many CSA options you can join or support. Here are some of your options!<\/p>\n

(As a note, different CSAs also run through different seasons. So, most will have a summer or fall CSA season, with some offering options for winter. This information is for the most recent version of each CSA\u2019s season, and is subject to change depending on season)<\/p>\n

Also, SNAP requirements for each CSA can differ. Refer to the organization\u2019s pages to learn more.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Farmshares\/CSA\u2019s\u00a0<\/p>\n

Philly Foodworks \u2013\u00a0<\/p>\n

Timing\/Availability: This CSA is year-round, and offers flexible subscription options.\u00a0<\/p>\n

About this CSA: This online market and farm share program<\/a> allows you to \u201cshop your way\u201d \u2013 with customizable options, flexible subscription options and choices between local produce, meat, dairy, baked goods and pantry items. The program uses a network of farmers, growers and producers, and updates their website each week with their offerings.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Cost: Prices vary based on where you deliver to. You can also choose between individual products or produce boxes. With our Old City office address, prices came out to $30-35 for a non-customizable \u2018mini\u2019 harvest share (7-10 items and serves 1-2 people), $40-45 for a non-customizable harvest share (7-10 items and serves 3-4 people), $40-45 for a small customizable share (7-10 items and serves 2-3 people) or $50-55 for a large customizable share (9-12 items and serves 3-4 people). Prices for the single items varied.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Delivery method: You can deliver to many places in the Philadelphia area. Check this map to see if you are eligible for delivery.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n

How to join: This CSA offers lots of flexibility. There is not a formal subscription process. You can get started<\/a> on their website by checking if your address is in their coverage area and checking on availability of products. From there, you can choose between produce books and individual items. You can subscribe to get items weekly, or extend the amount of time in between delivery. But, the model allows you to cancel your subscription or change its frequency at any time.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Weavers Way Co-op \u2013 Henry\u2019s Got Crops CSA<\/p>\n

Timing\/Availability: The main 2026 CSA season for Henry\u2019s Got Crops is running now until October 19. The CSA sometimes offers spring and winter extensions \u2013 adding onto the time you can pick up shares and offering more seasonal options.\u00a0<\/p>\n

About this CSA: Weavers Way is a cooperatively owned food market \u2013 with farms, store locations, a seasonal Farmer\u2019s Market and a CSA option.<\/a> They grow their food at two farm sites in Northwest Philly. And, they support the community by providing farm jobs in the city for new farmers and providing learning opportunities for local high school students. You do not need to be a Weavers Way Co-Op member to be a CSA member, but it can get you a discount.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Cost: There is a minimum $30 annual investment each year until you reach the $400 cap. You can either pay the $30 each year, or pay $400 up front for a \u201clifetime\u201d membership. If you are a recipient of a program like SNAP, TANF, WIC, Medicaid, SSI, SSDI, Military Disability or General Assistance, you can join for a reduced cost of $5 a year, and receive a discount on all of your purchases.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Delivery method: The farm offers three pickup times a week \u2013 Tuesdays from 2-7 p.m., Fridays from 2-7 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Sankanac CSA \u2013\u00a0<\/p>\n

Timing\/Availability: This farmshare is running now through November.\u00a0<\/p>\n

About this CSA: Sankanac CSA<\/a> runs out of Camphill Village Kimberton Hills \u2013 a village that houses everyone from single adults and families to participating elders. They focus on building community with adults with developmental disabilities while also engaging culturally with things like concerts, lectures and art exhibits. The CSA branch of the organization runs for 24 weeks from late May to November. There are diverse selections of vegetables and fruits throughout the season, and there are also u-pick opportunities for members.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Cost: Prices vary on share and income level. The CSA suggests that those who are making above the Chester County median income, own a home, have inherited money or have access to family money consider paying more, while those who make below the median income, are supporting children, have significant debt and have medical expenses not covered by insurance consider paying less. There are three share sizes \u2013 mini, partial or full. The lowest price starts at $11.75\/share, while the highest ranges up to $52\/share.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Delivery method: This CSA is pick-up only at their location at 1731 French Creek Road. Members can come Tuesday or Friday from 12-6 p.m.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Taproot Farm \u2013<\/p>\n

Timing\/availability: This CSA offers spring, summer and fall CSA options. They tend to have produce available from April-December of each year.\u00a0<\/p>\n

About this CSA: This spring, summer and fall CSA<\/a> offers fresh produce for most seasons with flexible pickup locations throughout the city and suburbs. For the summer CSA, you can expect greens like lettuce, kale, cabbages and collard greens, herbs and alliums like cilantro or leeks, fruits like strawberries or watermelon, tomatoes, roots and winter squash like butternut squash and beets and vegetables like edamame and sweet corn.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Cost: There are three size options \u2013 small, which includes 5-6 items a week, is perfect for 1-2 people and costs $25\/week, medium, which includes 7-8 items each week, is perfect for 2-4 people and is $32\/week, and large, which includes 10-11 items,is perfect for a household of 3+ that cooks most of their meals and is $45\/week. You can pay in full for the 21-week CSA membership, or pay in 2-3 installments.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Delivery method: There are 23 pickup locations<\/a> \u2013 with options to pickup at Chestnut Hill, East Falls, East Passayunk, Fairmount, Fishtown, Manayunk, Old City, Rittenhouse, South Philly, West Germantown and West Philly. There are also options on the Main Line and in the suburbs.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Living Hope Farm \u2013<\/p>\n

Timing\/availability: This CSA<\/a> offers the ultimate flexibility and registration for three season \u2013 spring, winter and summer (or their main season). Spring runs all throughout May, the main season runs from June-October, and the winter season runs from November-January.\u00a0<\/p>\n

About this CSA: CSA members can get pre-packaged harvest and \u201cfarm goodies,\u201d but also have the option to swap items at \u201cSwap Tables\u201d at each pickup location. There is also the option to pre-select items online ahead of time.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Cost: For the main season CSA, which runs from June-October and covers 22 weeks of boxes, it is $17+ per box. This covers 3-10 items each week. You can chose between small, medium or large shares, which vary in price.<\/a> The membership also includes access to the farm\u2019s self-service market shed, entry to the indoor public market, seasonal U-pick opportunities, and educational experiences and events on the farm. There are also three office pickup locations for employees working at select GSK Upper Providence, Merck and Pfizer locations. For the corporate boxes, it is $18 per box and covers 26 boxes.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Red Hill Farms \u2013<\/p>\n

Timing\/Availability: This season typically runs from mid-May through November.<\/p>\n

About this CSA: This farm share<\/a> offers 24 weeks of originally grown produce. Shares can include a variety of produce \u2013 including blackberries, sweet peppers, melons, onions and radishes. Members go to pick up their shares at the farm each week, where they can also utilize the farm\u2019s U-Pick garden. This gives members a variety of other crop options to pick themselves. The farm also has events and a children\u2019s section for kids to experience seed starting and insect exploration.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Cost: You can either pay in full for the farm share for $850, or give two payments of $425 each. CSA members can also split shares with another family or friend.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Delivery method: Members can pick up their shares or take advantage of the U-Pick garden, children\u2019s area or farm events at Red Hill Farm (609 Convent Road, Aston, PA 19014). Members can pick up on either Tuesday or Friday between 1-6 p.m.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Root Mass Farm \u2013 Garden Stake CSA<\/p>\n

Timing\/Availability: They are open for the Summer CSA season now. The CSA start and end depends on each farm season<\/p>\n

About this CSA: This unique CSA<\/a> does farm shares without the preset boxes or pick-up dates. Members pay at the beginning of the season, shop at one of two market locations and get money in their debit account to shop. The CSA markets itself as good for customers with unpredictable schedules, smaller households or a desire for customization.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Cost: There is a sliding-scale payment system \u2013 you can either contribute $150, $300 or $500. And, you get increased bonuses based on how much you contribute. For those contributing $150, you get $160 to spend at the market. For those paying $300, you get $345 to spend and for those paying $500, you get $600 to spend. However, this bonus system is only maximized if paying by check. If paying by card, the 3% card fee will be taken out of the bonus. If you don\u2019t use the full amount in your debit account this season, you can roll over to next year!<\/p>\n

Delivery method: You can buy produce from one of two market locations \u2013 either Headhouse Market on Sundays from 10-2, or Frankford Transportation Center on Tuesdays from 2-6.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Urban Roots CSA \u2013\u00a0<\/p>\n

Timing\/Availability: For the 2026 season, the share will start the week of June 16th and run through the end of December. You can also add on credits for the Winter Harvest Buying Club, which runs January 7-February 25 and features winter produce like spinach, winter squash and carrots.\u00a0<\/p>\n

About this CSA: This CSA<\/a> offers a variety of customization and flexibility. There are multiple different share sizes with different prices, some amount of credits for the farm store (which allows you to choose unique or different items that may not be in each weekly share), a special Strawberry Week CSA in spring and credits to the farm\u2019s holiday shop (to be spent in the weeks of Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year\u2019s). You can also buy add-ons for things like bread, eggs, cheese and mushrooms each week.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Cost: There are three share sizes. The small share is a total cost of $915. It typically includes 4-6 different types of produce, $75 of store credit, $60 of holiday credits, and $30 for strawberries. It is ideal for smaller households or those who want a lower rate or maximum flexibility. The regular share is a total cost of $1360. It typically includes 6-8 different types of produce, $115 of store credit, $90 of holiday credits, and $30 for strawberries. It is ideal for families of 2+ who love veggies and are looking for diversity each week. Finally, the family share is a total cost of $1800. It typically includes 8+ different types of produce, $150 of store credit, $120 of holiday credits, and $30 for strawberries.This is ideal for multiple-adult households and families of 3+ who will eat a lot of veggies. You can pay in full, or pay 50% upfront, and the other 50% by August 1.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Delivery method: You can pick up at the CSA on Tuesday & Thursday between 3:30-6 p.m. Their pickup location is at 395 Bishop Hollow Road in Newtown Sq, PA at the Garrett Williamson campus. These days are flexible, so members are encouraged to reach out if they can\u2019t make the pickup.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Landisdale Farm \u2013\u00a0<\/p>\n

Timing\/Availability: The farm is open for weekly share pickups now.\u00a0<\/p>\n

About this CSA: This Lebanon County farm offers flexible options to pick up produce by the bundle each week! You can pay for a set price of 10-lb increments of various goods \u2013 including sweet potatoes, onions, beets, and more. They have delivery and pickup options to increase flexibility.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Cost: Products vary on availability, but tend to be around $2-2.80 per pound, or somewhere between $20-28 for 10 pounds. Shipping to other locations adds an extra $25-30 charge.<\/p>\n

Delivery method: Right now, there are two pickup options \u2013 one at Clark Park Farmer\u2019s Market in West Philly on Saturdays from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., and another at their Jonestown farm location at 838 Ono Rd on Saturdays from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and Wednesdays from 2:30-5:30 p.m. Beyond this, they can ship to a variety of states. Kimberton CSA \u2013<\/p>\n

Timing\/Availability: The Summer 2026 CSA signup is closed, but Fall 2026 CSA info will be posted in August.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n

About this CSA: Shop at Pennsylvania\u2019s oldest CSA<\/a>, and support the collaborative of passionate farmers who are fielding healthy, organic produce. Located on a 10-acre plot of land adjacent to Seven Stars Farm in Phoenixville and now partnering with Two Gander Farm in Downingtown, the CSA provides flexible share options, pickup options and veggie options. The CSA offers a \u201cfree choice\u201d pickup style \u2013 meaning produce is set on display and members can choose which options they want in their boxes, rather than a pre-packaged box. Members can also pick crops with the U-Pick option on the Two Gander Farm during pick-up times, and customize their weekly share boxes online if picking up at the other locations.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Cost: A full vegetable share costs $1,150.23, and includes 11-12 items per share (plus pick-your-own crops). This option is best for a family of four or more that cooks at home at least four nights a week. A half vegetable share costs $841.11 and includes 7-8 items per share (plus pick-your-own crops). This option is best for couples, a single person who cooks a lot, or a family that cooks at home at least 3 nights a week. A small vegetable share costs $604.21, and includes 4 items per share (plus pick-your-own crops). This is best for a single person who enjoys the farming community, but doesn\u2019t need many items.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Delivery method: You can pick up at the Downingtown farm (110 Buck Road) from 1-7 p.m. and U-Pick, at the Kimberton CSA site (415 W Seven Stars Road, Phoenixville, PA) on Fridays from 1-7 p.m., or the Bryn Mawr Farmers Market on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Lancaster Farm Fresh Co-Op CSA<\/p>\n

Timing\/Availability: Their summer CSA season is currently underway, and will run through the week of October 26th. Prices are prorated weekly based on when you join.\u00a0<\/p>\n

About this CSA: This CSA is perfect if you\u2019re looking to pickup in Philadelphia \u2013 with lots of spots both in and around the city and a range of share and box sizes, this is a great, flexible CSA option.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Cost: A large produce share includes 10-12 items which is perfect for families or avid vegetable fans, a medium produce share includes 6-8 items which is perfect for individuals, couples or those looking for small portions of veggies for nightly side dishes or throughout the day, and a small produce share includes four items, which is perfect for anyone eating less veggies or looking to supplement their weekly groceries.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Farmer Jawn CSA \u2013\u00a0<\/p>\n

Timing\/Availability: Their 26-week Farm Share option is still open for applications. The season runs from June 7- December 2 this year.\u00a0<\/p>\n

About this CSA: This CSA gives members fresh produce from FarmerJawn\u2019s farms and trusted partners. Their classic farm share gives you access to 6-10 items of locally growing produce each week (or bi-weekly). With different pickup options (every week or biweekly) and multiple pickup options in Philly, this CSA is perfect for Philadelphians looking for spring\/summer and fall produce shares.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Cost: You can choose a biweekly option for $500 or a weekly option for $1000. These costs are upfront at the beginning of the season.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Delivery method: You can pick up at four different locations in the Philly area. FarmerJawn\u2019s Elkins Park Farm (1813 Beech Avenue) is the primary pickup location offering options on Wednesdays from 2-6 p.m. and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Other locations include Dickinson Square Farmers Market on Sundays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., FarmerJawn Westtown on Sundays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and CornerJawn Kensington on Sundays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Down to Earth Harvest CSA \u2013\u00a0<\/p>\n

Timing\/Availbility: Their CSA season runs from mid-May through Thanksgiving\u00a0<\/p>\n

About this CSA: This CSA mixes modern and flexibility \u2013 offering personalized subscriptions while providing seasonal produce. Members can choose between customizing their farm share on an online farm market or leaving it up to the farmer to curate their box. You\u2019ll typically find 30+ items to choose from each week, including tomatoes, salad mix, cucumbers, strawberries and melons. There are also options for weekly or biweekly pick-ups, and you can place a hold at any time without penalty.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Cost: There is no flat fee for shares, but the CSA prefers a $100 deposit upon signing up that will be placed on your account. The price of each share depends on items ordered each week. There\u2019s a minimum of $27 per order, and the default Farmer choice order price is $29.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Delivery method: There are a variety of pickup locations around Philadelphia. The main spot is on their farm in Downingtown (1585 Winfield Drive) on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 2-7:30 p.m. You can find all pickup locations here.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n

Crawford Organics CSA \u2013<\/p>\n

Timing\/Availability: There are three CSA season options \u2013 a 4-week \u201cEarly Start\u201d option that begins on April 7th, a \u201cSpring\/Summer CSA\u201d which runs from May-August, and a \u201cFall CSA,\u201d which runs from September-December.\u00a0<\/p>\n

About this CSA: This CSA gives members an opportunity to explore farm-fresh produce during most parts of the year, and add on many different options including optional home delivery, optional fruit and meat shares, and a weekly newsletter to stay connected to the farm.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Cost: There are two vegetable box options \u2013 standard and mini. The standard size box contains 7-9 items and is designed for 2-4 people, while the mini size box contains 5-6 items and is designed for 1-2 people. The cost varies based on how much of the season you opt for, if you are adding on extras, and if you are adding a delivery option. You can learn more on their price page here.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n

Blooming Glen Farm CSA \u2013<\/p>\n

Timing\/Availability: It is past the deadline to join this CSA, but it is one to keep in mind for next year. You can become a member by June 1 of that particular year.\u00a0<\/p>\n

About this CSA: This family farm CSA started back in 2003, and it has grown to about 150 members. The group offers lots of options for members \u2013 everything from grapes and bok choy to peppers, potatoes and leeks.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Cost: For a seasonal weekly share, it is $875, and for a bi-weekly share, it is $525.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Delivery method: You can pick up at their farm at 2565 Charlestown Road in Phoenixville, PA. Farm pickups are offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays between noon and 7 p.m.\u00a0<\/p>\n

How to join: You can learn more here. For next season, the website will have information about how to join and when to apply. Members who apply will receive an invite in early spring to a member day \u2013 chock-full of farm tours, potato planting and food.\u00a0<\/p>\n
