One would assume most Amazon deliveries are pretty manageable. And then there are deliveries like the one Elias (@thrivewithelias) documented from inside his Amazon van in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.<\/p>\n
The caption makes you feel his pain: \u201cI do NOT deserve this.\u201d<\/p>\n
The now viral video<\/a> has racked up 1.3 million views.<\/p>\n What did the Amazon custom order?<\/p>\n Elias didn\u2019t mince words in his assessment of the situation.<\/p>\n \u201cThis should be a crime,\u201d he said, panning the camera across the truck, zeroing in on the heap of boxes. \u201cThis person deserves jail time. Amazon, whoever shipped this \u2014 you deserve jail time. Look at this. Every single box is a 45-pound plate. There\u2019s 22 of them.\u201d<\/p>\n For those keeping score at home: that\u2019s 990 pounds of weight plates that one driver had to physically move from his van to someone\u2019s door.<\/p>\n Deliver drivers weigh in<\/p>\n Fellow delivery workers showed up immediately in solidarity (sort of). \u201cWe don\u2019t get paid enough,\u201d wrote nightskys35.<\/p>\n Bradleyjr1992, a self-identified FedEx driver, joked, \u201cAs a FedEx driver I\u2019d be happy to have anything under 50lbs.\u201d<\/p>\n 404gapeach felt more relief than sympathy, writing, \u201cAs a mail carrier; I\u2019m so happy to see AMAZON delivering it!!!\u201d<\/p>\n Simiann83 broke down why the situation was so frustrating. \u201cPeople in the comments not realizing it\u2019s not the weight that matters but how long the stop will take,\u201d they said. \u201cImagine each one takes 90 seconds cause he has to lug it to the door and then back. That\u2019s over 30 minutes for that one stop and they expect you to do hundreds of stops a day and don\u2019t factor stuff like this in.\u201d<\/p>\n Not everyone was sympathetic, however.<\/p>\n \u201cWhy don\u2019t y\u2019all have a dolly on the truck?\u201d asked beautybasket21.Ridiculous_ev, made a tongue-in-cheek suggestion, writing, \u201cU should buy a dolly on Amazon.\u201d Elias sarcastically responded,\u201cYou might be a genius.\u201d<\/p>\n Rachaelcwyatt saw a silver lining. \u201cTurn on your headphones and you just got a FREE workout my dude,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n Dodozobo spoke for the policy-minded crowd. \u201cNo bc there actually needs to be limits to certain things,\u201d they said.<\/p>\n At least one person offered a practical and considerate solution.<\/p>\n Rustywonder said, \u201cWhen I order heavy s*** I meet my driver with my cart attached to my mower so he has to move it from his truck to my cart only. I am super aware of how hard they work and do my diligence to lessen it.\u201d<\/p>\n Does Amazon have rules about how much drivers should carry?<\/p>\n Amazon\u2019s delivery service partners (the third-party companies that actually employ most of the drivers you see in those blue vans) are supposed to follow Amazon\u2019s health and safety guidelines<\/a>. This includes two-person lifts for packages over 50 pounds.<\/p>\n But a single 45-pound box technically falls under that threshold, meaning 22 of them in one stop isn\u2019t technically a policy violation\u2026even if it adds up to nearly half a ton.<\/p>\n Whether drivers are provided with equipment like dollies varies by delivery station and service partner. There is no universal requirement.<\/p>\n Amazon and Elias did not respond to requests for comment.<\/p>\n
