Delaware’s 2026 Superintendent of the Year will have to try to win Pennsylvania’s award next year.<\/p>\n
Red Clay Superintendent Dr. Dorrell Green was unanimously chosen as the new Superintendent of the Norristown (Pennsylvania) Area School District, effective July 22, 2026.<\/p>\n
Green’s pending move was leaked by Norristown in a press release Sunday, even before the required school board vote Monday night.<\/p>\n
During the vote, the district announced a five-year contract with Green, with an annual $270,000 salary.<\/p>\n
According to Delaware’s Open Checkbook, Green made $235,993 with Red Clay in FY 2025, which was about a $30,000 raise from the early years of his administration.<\/p>\n
Green acknowledged the salary after their vote.<\/p>\n
“I know people are probably watching because the salary was put up there. I’ll earn every penny to what I commit to. Whether that’s coming early, showing up late, doing the hard work that’s necessary to make sure our children get what they deserve.”<\/p>\n
Red Clay has not publicly announced Green’s departure, likely due to his hiring by Norristown not being official until Monday night.<\/p>\n
According to Norristown, Green was chosen from a pool of 88 candidates, representing at least 15 states.<\/p>\n
“Throughout this process, our community made it clear that they were seeking a visionary leader who is committed to student achievement, educational excellence, and meaningful engagement with all stakeholders,” said Jeremiah Lemke, President of the Norristown Area Board of School Directors. “Dr. Green’s experience, leadership record, and commitment to serving diverse school communities distinguished him throughout the search process. We are excited to welcome him to Norristown.”<\/p>\n
Green oversaw Delaware’s largest district, with over 15,000 students, and oversaw seven high schools spread between traditional, magnets, and charters.<\/p>\n
“They sometimes you should be content with what you have, but when complacency sets in, you need a change. So I sought that change, and Norristown was the area where that change has presented itself.”<\/p>\n
