Aside from the changes to personnel and development of the younger players in the locker room, a large reason for Baun\u2019s excitement lies in Fangio and his system. \u201cI feel he\u2019s taking things to the next level this year,\u201d Baun said about his defensive coordinator. \u201cEven with his own scheme, he continues to develop and tweak and change.\u201d Baun, having grown into his role under Fangio, now leads one of the youngest defensive rosters in the league. \u201cHe\u2019s a hard-nosed, old school football coach, Baun said. \u201cIf you\u2019re willing to learn and listen to what he has to say, it could be really good for you and I think it\u2019s been really good for this defense.\u201d<\/p>\n

CB Riq Woolen. The Eagles signed Woolen to a one-year deal worth up to $15 million this offseason to solidify the corner spot opposite Quinyon Mitchell. He has opened some eyes with his unique blend of size (6-foot-4, 210 pounds), speed and coverage skills. The highlight was an interception of a Jalen Hurts throw during minicamp when he anticipated a throw to tight end Dallas Goedert, undercut the route and sped the other way with the pick.<\/p>\n
Quarterback: Will Jalen Hurts mesh with Sean Mannion\u2019s offense? One of the biggest stories of the Eagles\u2019 offseason was the hiring of Sean Mannion to take over as offensive coordinator. This is a big-swing hire after the 2025 version of the Eagles\u2019 offense finished 22nd in the NFL. They were far too talented to be in that spot. So they moved on from Kevin Patullo and went through an exhaustive search to find their next OC before landing on Mannion. Mannion, 34, is expected to run a version of the Shanahan offense. That will be a big departure from the offense we\u2019ve seen under Nick Sirianni and Jalen Hurts over the last five seasons. While this new offense will be some sort of \u201cblend\u201d between old and new, the Eagles are expected to run many of the staples of a Shanahan scheme. And it\u2019s fair to wonder how that offense will blend with the Eagles\u2019 franchise quarterback. The good news is that, so far, it seems like Mannion and Hurts have already forged a strong relationship. Hurts is the kind of player who wants to know the why behind everything and Mannion has had all the answers. What are the staples we are expecting to see in this offense? More under-center usage, play action, pre-snap motions and a real emphasis on tying the run and pass. Nick Sirianni has said he thinks Hurts has shown an ability to do all of those things.<\/p>\n
Whether by design or overreaction, Philadelphia is moving off its prior offensive scheme under new coordinator Sean Mannion. For the offensive line, that means more of a stretch, wide-zone blocking approach versus one that defaulted to more of an inside-zone, power-based philosophy. The \u201cother guy\u201d on the Eagles\u2019 dominant offensive front, which also includes star left tackle Jordan Mailata, is third-year pro Tyler Steen, who stands out as a prime breakout candidate at right guard under Mannion, new offensive line coach Chris Kuper, and run game coordinator Ryan Mahaffey. The 6-6, 321-pound former Alabama standout via Vanderbilt, selected in the third round (No. 65 overall) of the 2023 NFL Draft, stepped in as a starter last season and more than held his own, starting all 18 games (including the playoff loss to San Francisco) after limited action in his first two seasons (just three combined starts).<\/p>\n
An Eagles offensive line that brings back every starter looks healthy and has bought into the shift toward more wide zone blocking concepts under new offensive coordinator Sean Mannion. Five-time All-Pro right tackle Lane Johnson was thrilled about having guard help on certain blocks for the first time in his career. He even grinned, gave the \u201cOK\u201d sign and said, \u201cMe likey!\u201d Center Cam Jurgens (back) and left guard Landon Dickerson (knee) did not miss any time in OTAs and minicamp after traveling to Colombia for offseason stem cell treatment. The health and confidence of what\u2019s arguably been the team\u2019s strongest and most tenured unit during its golden era is as good an early sign as it gets the Eagles are headed toward a much-needed offensive resurgence.<\/p>\n
Kaney was laid off at 94.1 WIP in March as part of the latest round of national cutbacks by parent company, Audacy. In addition to being an on-air host, Kaney served as the station\u2019s sideline reporter during the Eagles\u2019 2025 Super Bowl run and all of last season, replacing the fired Howard Eskin. It\u2019s a role she won\u2019t be returning to. \u201cAs much as I would have loved to return as the sideline reporter, they never reached out,\u201d Kaney said, \u201cand I\u2019ll be covering a different NFL franchise moving forward.\u201d Kaney had been with Fox 29 since 2023, serving as a parttime sports anchor and reporter. She also appeared on Good Day Philadelphia and featured prominently on the station\u2019s Eagles coverage.<\/p>\n
In other words, there\u2019s a reasonable enough chance that the Cowboys will have traded one of the best defensive players in the NFL in Micah Parsons for a couple of aging DTs and a net loss in draft pick value.<\/p>\n
There are a lot of things flying under the radar right now when it comes to the layers this defense can develop under first-year DC Christian Parker, and one of them is absolutely the Cowboys going into their first full season with Quinnen Williams at defensive tackle. Parker\u2019s expertise in the secondary paired with his first draft pick Caleb Downs being the best secondary player in the class has created a heavier focus on the backend of the Cowboys defense compared to the trenches. This is especially true when considering all of the other new names in the secondary besides Downs like Cobie Durant, Jalen Thompson, P.J. Locke, and Devin Moore.<\/p>\n
The Commanders and Eagles share one of the oldest and most bitter rivalries in the NFL \u2014 one which the Commanders hold the lead in overall W-L record at 91-87-5. While Philadelphia has largely controlled the NFC East over the last few years, Washington has consistently played them incredibly tough. In fact, even during down years, the Commanders have managed to pull off surprising upsets against the Eagles, including a tight 24-17 victory in their most recent matchup. A win in this 2026 Week 1 game would see the series stand at 3-3 in the Dan Quinn era, while a Washington loss would tilt the table to 2-4 in favor of the Eagles since the start of the \u201924 season when Quinn took over as head coach. The main storyline surrounding this game is the massive amount of schematic change on both sidelines. Opening the season against a fierce divisional opponent while breaking in two new offensive coordinators and one defensive coordinator means that the team that makes fewer mental mistakes will have a massive advantage. Additionally, playing at Lincoln Financial Field is always a hostile environment for road teams, giving the Eagles a distinct home-field emotional edge. Philly is favored in early betting lines, so the Commanders will face a tough road test against a good team and a tough crowd as Washington looks to reverse fortune in 2026.<\/p>\n
We really shouldn\u2019t be all that surprised that Giants fans think that the Giants will be the next to win a Super Bowl. Likewise, we shouldn\u2019t be all that surprised only 1 percent of fans think the New York Jets will be next to win a Super Bowl. I didn\u2019t specify a timeline, and the Jets clearly have a plan to return to competency, but a lot can happen between now and three years from now. The surprise, at least for me, was that the Giants and Buffalo Bills aren\u2019t closer.<\/p>\n
