The Children\u2019s Hospital of Philadelphia announced Tuesday that\u00a0President Joseph Mitchell will succeed Madeline Bell as CEO.\u00a0<\/p>\n
In a statement, CHOP officials said Bell will retire after\u00a0spending nearly 40\u00a0years at the hospital, including serving for eight years as chief operating officer and 11 years as CEO.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cServing CHOP has been the honor of a lifetime,\u201d said Bell, in a statement. \u201cI am incredibly proud of how far this organization has come \u2014 and even more confident in where it is headed. Joe is a mission-driven leader with a deep commitment to children and families, and I know CHOP will continue to thrive under his leadership.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mitchell became president of CHOP in April 2025. <\/p>\n
Before joining the hospital, he served as vice president at Boston Children\u2019s Hospital and president of Franciscan Children\u2019s.\u00a0<\/p>\n
CHOP officials said Bell shared her intention to retire with the board of trustees back in 2024, initiating a process to find a new leader for the healthcare provider. <\/p>\n
In stepping into this role, officials said, Mitchell has worked closely with Bell to “advance CHOP\u2019s strategic priorities and finalize efforts to expand its presence throughout the region.”<\/p>\n
