L. MACUNGIE TWP., Pa. – President Trump is in Lehigh County. It’s his first Pennsylvania visit of the year and he’s speaking at the Mack Trucks plant in Lower Macungie Township.<\/p>\n
The President has peace talks ongoing with Iran, and he just got back from the G7 summit in Europe. His administration has also been battling algae in the reflecting pool.<\/p>\n
But he’s here in Lower Macungie Township Tuesday to talk about the economy and to support Republican members of Congress before the midterms.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe gotta make sure you vote for your congressman here, I\u2019m not doing this for my health,\u201d said President Trump. \u201cCountries from all over the world, they’re investing in the United States. Two years ago, they wouldn’t think of it.\u201d<\/p>\n
But before the speech, 69 News reporter Rob Manch talked with several Trump supporters about how they’re feeling about the President and the midterms.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe diehard Trump supporters, I would tie myself to a tree if the boss was going to speak in the middle of a hurricane,\u201d said supporter Edward Young.<\/p>\n
President Trump’s approval rating has been sliding in recent national polls. Not a single poll taken in June gave him a positive approval rating.<\/p>\n
But his supporters say to stay the course.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf you’re a conservative, and there’s one thing that you don’t agree with, well I understand that, too, but you can’t just give up the game, take your ball and go home. You’ve got to stay in the fight, and we’ve got midterms coming up, and we’ve got to take care of business,\u201d said supporter Blake Marnell.<\/p>\n
The event was hosted at Mack Trucks, which is preparing to open a new factory in Mexico. Last year, the company announced it was laying off up to 350 employees at the Lower Macungie site.<\/p>\n
But the company’s president assured the crowd he’s committed to Pennsylvania.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe’ve invested more than 400 million dollars over the last 10 years to expand and upgrade this facility,\u201d said Stephen Roy, president at Mack Trucks.<\/p>\n
And Trump’s supporters say they expect to see the President several more times this year.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn ’24, we saw the President all through the state of Pennsylvania, and I think that we’re going to see him here for key districts as well this year,\u201d says Marnell.<\/p>\n
