Penny couldn\u2019t be more grateful for all those who came to her aid. She personally thanked her family, friends and co-workers, her transplant team and especially Amy,\u00a0for her \u201cremarkable generosity and selfless gift.\u201d \u201cWithout Amy, none of this would have been possible,\u201d Penny says. \u201cNow I can spend time with my grandchildren, go to the beach, go fishing and camping. I\u2019m up for anything.\u201d<\/p>\n
Amy, a mother of 11-year-old twin girls, is also doing well. When asked why she came forward to help her friend, she says, \u201cBecause it was Penny.\u201d She says she feels great and wouldn\u2019t change a thing about the experience. Penny\u2019s surgical team is also pleased.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cWith the expertise inherent in our transplant program, we were able to give Penny a new chapter and more years with her family,\u201d Dr. Chen says. \u201cWe had more than 20 clinicians in the operating room that day who all contributed to saving Penny\u2019s life. It\u2019s always a rewarding feeling to give patients a new, happy beginning.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
The three friends will be reinforcing their bond of friendship and support of kidney medicine when they take part in the 2026 Philadelphia Kidney Walk, Oct. 25 at the Philadelphia Navy Yard.
