Garret Martin and Oswaldo Cabrera each had three hits Tuesday night as the Scranton\/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders opened the second half of the International League season with a 7-2 victory over the Indianapolis Indians in the start of a six-game series at Victory Field in Indiana.<\/p>\n
Martin opened the scoring with two outs in the top of the third inning with a 443-foot home run to center field with Marco Luciano aboard. It was Martin\u2019s second home run with the RailRiders since being promoted from Double-A Somerset on Saturday. He had 21 home runs in 63 games this season with the Patriots.<\/p>\n
The RailRiders then batted around in the top of the fourth and scored three times to extend their lead to 5-0. Ernesto Martinez Jr. led off with a walk and Jonathan Ornelas was hit by a pitch. After a pitching change, Payton Henry was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Duke Ellis reached on an error, enabling Martinez to score. Cabrera singled to score Ornelas. After the next two batters were retired, Martin singled to score Henry.<\/p>\n
Indianapolis got two of the runs back in the bottom of the fourth on a sacrifice fly by Dominic Fletcher and a bases-loaded walk to Ronny Simon, cutting the deficit to 5-2.<\/p>\n
It stayed that way until the top of the eighth. Duke Ellis led off with a single, went to second on a wild pitch and scored on a single by Cabrera. After Luciano singled, Yanquiel Fernandez grounded into a double play. But Martin singled to score Cabrera and make it 7-2.<\/p>\n
Five RailRiders pitchers combined to limit Indianapolis to five hits.\u00a0Alexander Cornielle started and went three-plus innings and allowed one run on two hits with four walks and two strikeouts. Carson Coleman (1-0), the second of four relievers, retired all four batters he faced to get the win.<\/p>\n
On Wednesday at 1:35 p.m., the series continues. Righthander Adam Kloffenstein (2-5, 5.31) is scheduled to start for the RailRiders (1-0, 38-37).
