EXETER TWP., Pa. – The ringing celebrations of America 250 will be front and center this weekend with a living history museum in Berks County sending visitors back in time.<\/p>\n
69 News Reporter Sydney Kay gives us a look at the site in Exeter Township with how they\u2019ll highlight our nation\u2019s roots.<\/p>\n
Scratching the surface with history using ink and a quill pen.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was time consuming but that was the only way you could communicate with each other,\u201d said Diane Krueger, a volunteer and board member at the Daniel Boone Homestead.<\/p>\n
Engaging visitors in the challenges and secrets of our country\u2019s past is always on the agenda at the Daniel Boone Homestead in Exeter Township.<\/p>\n
\u201cBack in the Revolutionary War, they used invisible ink on the back of some of their letters,\u201d Krueger said.<\/p>\n
Stretching across nearly 580 acres, the site is a living history museum with hands-on demonstrations and historical structures showcasing the birthplace of Daniel Boone.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe\u2019s most known for basically settling and discovering Kentucky and that kind of earned him the title of \u2018America\u2019s first frontiersman,\u201d said Amanda Machik, the events and programs manager at the Daniel Boone Homestead.<\/p>\n
The museum is gearing up for America 250 by hosting its largest Signature Living History event on Saturday from noon to 8 p.m.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe will have the blacksmithing going, gunsmithing, leatherworking, house tours,\u201d Krueger said.<\/p>\n
Connecting to the younger generations far beyond pages in a textbook.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe First Pennsylvania Regiment will be here and have a small military encampment set up,\u201d Machik said.<\/p>\n
A reading of the Declaration of Independence is also planned, immersing visitors into the mindset of a world unlike ours today.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey didn\u2019t know any different so that\u2019s just how they did it, so of course to them it didn\u2019t seem hard. It was just daily life,\u201d Machik added.<\/p>\n
