A Roaring Brook Twp. man was sentenced to three to 10 years behind bars Tuesday after he caused a crash last year that killed a man on a motorcycle.<\/p>\n
Jeremy Dickey pleaded guilty to homicide by vehicle while DUI on Feb. 24.<\/p>\n
Dickey, 46, was driving south on Route 307 in Roaring Brook Twp.\u00a0on July 6 when he struck motorcyclist Christian Herbert of Taylor, who was approaching him in the opposite lane.<\/p>\n
Dickey told state troopers responding to the crash that he was on his way back from a beer distributor and had \u201cone or two\u201d beers several hours earlier.\u00a0Troopers noted that he smelled strongly of alcohol.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe distance between Dickey and Herbert, when Dickey made the left turn in front of Herbert, would not allow sufficient response time for Herbert to avoid the collision,\u201d Trooper William Fells wrote in the police affidavit following the crash.<\/p>\n
