ALLENTOWN, Pa. \u2014 Neighbors and first responders worked together Wednesday afternoon to help three residents escape a second-alarm house fire in the 300 block of North Railroad Street in Allentown.<\/p>\n
Video from the scene showed people climbing out of windows as smoke and flames spread through the home.<\/p>\n
Leyla Torres said she first noticed the fire across the street from her mother’s home around 1 p.m..<\/p>\n
She said neighbors immediately called 911 after spotting the blaze.<\/p>\n
“We got to give them a shout out,” Torres said of the Allentown firefighters. “They were here ASAP. They were running all over the place. They attacked that house like it was their families.”<\/p>\n
Before emergency crews arrived, one neighbor, Manuel Pampin, sprang into action after hearing what sounded like an air-conditioning unit fall from a window.<\/p>\n
“We were working right here in the garage, and we heard the AC unit come out of the window,” Manuel said. “When we got here, the girl was on the ceiling. The little boy was on the second roof. We ran over, helped the boy get down, and then helped the girl come down as well.”<\/p>\n
The Allentown Fire Department later confirmed in a Facebook post that everyone inside the home escaped safely.<\/p>\n
The department also credited bystanders, including Pampin, for assisting those trapped before firefighters arrived.<\/p>\n
“Honestly, I was just hoping everybody was okay,” Manuel said. “I just wanted to make sure everybody was all right and safe.”<\/p>\n
The American Red Cross also responded to assist those affected by the fire.<\/p>\n
According to the organization, its Disaster Action Team helped four people impacted by the blaze by providing resources and emergency support as they begin the recovery process.<\/p>\n
