GEORGETOWN COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – A Georgetown County man was arrested after deputies said he ran from a traffic stop, escaped during a chase and prompted an overnight search.<\/p>\n

Georgetown County deputies arrested a man wanted out of Florence County, who remained at large after an overnight search.<\/p>\n

The Georgetown County Sheriff\u2019s Office arrested 53-year-old Charles Murphy, of Scranton, who ran from a traffic stop on Highway 701 near Walmart on Tuesday when deputies tried to take him into custody.<\/p>\n

Deputies said Murphy and Krystal Johnson broke away after a scuffle and led officers on a high-speed chase down Highway 701.<\/p>\n

The chase ended at Pringle Ferry Landing, where deputies said the two abandoned their Mercedes and jumped into the water.<\/p>\n

Deputies said Murphy made it back to shore and escaped capture after an extensive search that continued into the early morning hours.<\/p>\n

Murphy was later found on Wednesday by a property owner who came to check his secondary house on Pringle Ferry Road, deputies said.<\/p>\n

Murphy had warrants out of Florence County. He now faces hindering and driving under suspension charges added by Georgetown County. <\/p>\n

Johnson, who was also wanted on a burglary warrant out of Florence County, was quickly taken into custody. She is facing a charge of failure to stop for blue lights for her part in the chase.<\/p>\n

Murphy is being taken to the Georgetown County Detention Center, awaiting extradition.<\/p>\n
