PITTSTON TWP. \u2014 The board that oversees the Wilkes-Barre\/Scranton International Airport ended another meeting Thursday without addressing the airplane-sized elephant in the room: whether board Chairman Chris Chermak is among seven finalists for the job of airport executive director.<\/p>\n
But Chermak, a Republican Lackawanna County commissioner since 2020, promised clarity on that question when pressed repeatedly by reporters after the meeting ended.<\/p>\n
\u201cI will have an official answer for you in a couple hours,\u201d he said. \u201cI will give you those comments in a little bit, today.\u201d<\/p>\n
It comes after the airport board approved in March a $47,574 contract with ADK Consulting and Executive Search, a Florida-based firm specializing in searches for airport and aerospace management executives, to facilitate the process of finding a successor to Executive Director Carl Beardsley Jr. Stephen Mykulyn, the airport\u2019s longtime director of engineering, is serving as interim executive director amid the search.<\/p>\n
ADK reviewed 20 applications for the position and winnowed that broader list down to seven, though officials have not identified those seven finalists or said whether Chermak is on the short list. Chermak did not deny interest in the executive director job when asked about it in April but has to this point refused to comment on his potential candidacy.<\/p>\n
The airport board Chermak chairs \u2014 which is made up of the three Lackawanna County commissioners, a pair of Luzerne County councilmembers and the Luzerne County manager \u2014 will eventually be tasked with hiring the next director.<\/p>\n
