Nonprofits across our region say they\u2019re stretched thin \u2014 but the demand for services keeps rising.<\/p>\n
Today, dozens of organizations gathered at Gannon University for a nonprofit fair.<\/p>\n
Inside Gannon University\u2019s Yehl Ballroom, more than 30 nonprofits lined the room. Organizations across the region tell me they\u2019re facing rising community needs due to many factors such as inflation, but fewer workers to meet it.<\/p>\n
Rosie Pregler says despite the challenges, the work is deeply rewarding.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think nonprofits are the backbone of our Erie. They work with a variety of communities and people, and we are, I think, definitely stronger,\u201d said Rosie Pregler, a curator for Presque Isle Light Station.<\/p>\n
But with finding new employees, there is hope. I met a recent graduate named Ancy with a background in healthcare, who says her values align with nonprofits.<\/p>\n
\u201cSelf service of serving the community and the nonprofit organization aligns with my vision, and their vision is the same, to serve the community, so I would love an opportunity in the nonprofit organization,\u201d said Ancy, a recent graduate.<\/p>\n
Another nonprofit worker, Emmy Geiger, says nonprofits enrich the community through the arts, shelters and more. She also works to break a common misconception.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou could get a good paying job in a nonprofit with great benefits, a great team and a livable wage in Erie,\u201d said Emmy Geiger, who works for the Nonprofit Partnership.<\/p>\n
Nonprofits say this isn\u2019t just about hiring. It\u2019s about breaking a cycle. As community needs rise, they need more support and more people willing to step into these jobs.<\/p>\n
