An investigation is underway after police said a man was hit and killed by a dump truck in Wilmington, Delaware.<\/p>\n
According to Delaware State Police, on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, around 10 a.m., a Peterbilt dump truck was stopped at a red light on northbound Brookside Drive, at the intersection of North Maryland Avenue.\u00a0At the same time, a man was walking westbound on the sidewalk along the eastbound side of North Maryland Avenue, approaching the intersection.<\/p>\n
Police said after the traffic signal turned green, the dump truck began making a left turn onto westbound North Maryland Avenue. As the truck was turning, the man walked in front of it and was struck.<\/p>\n
The man, a 57-year-old from Wilmington, Delaware, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police. The driver of the dump truck, a\u00a047-year-old man from Smyrna, Delaware, was not injured.<\/p>\n
The roadway had been closed for nearly three hours while the scene was investigated and cleared. <\/p>\n
