CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) – The Coast Guard\u2019s Eastern Great Lakes watchstanders responded to a call about a vessel with 10 people aboard striking a break wall across from Burke Lakefront Airport Thursday night.<\/p>\n
The Coast Guard said it was first notified of the incident when it received a call at 11:52 p.m. saying that four were injured, including a child with a head injury.<\/p>\n
According to a call, the injuries were the result of a 37-foot vessel in Lake Erie striking the break wall across from Burke Lakefront Airport.<\/p>\n
The Coast Guard said an additional call came in reporting concern for the condition of the vessel.<\/p>\n
Watchstanders sent Coast Guard Station Cleveland Harbor\u2019s 29-foot Response Boat-Small boat crew, who arrived at the vessel at 12:32 a.m.<\/p>\n
The response team said the vessel was taking on water.<\/p>\n
The crew was able to transfer all 10 passengers to their boat and transport them to North Coast Harbor.<\/p>\n
The response crew also said the child was evaluated by emergency medical services.<\/p>\n
The Coast Guard said the owner of the vessel arranged for a local salvage company to recover the vessel.<\/p>\n
The Coast Guard said that there were no reports of pollution.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe could not be more proud of the job our crew did,\u201d said Chief Petty Officer Adrian Ledesma, executive petty officer, Station Cleveland Harbor. \u201cThey displayed excellent technical proficiency, demonstrated a strong understanding of the operational risks, triaged multiple injured people onboard, and safely transferred them to the awaiting EMS personnel.\u201d<\/p>\n
