The brewers at Erie Brewing Company might be a little biased when they say they have the best beer in town.<\/p>\n
So, for this week\u2019s Clocking In, our Jade Leah Burns found out if this was true.<\/p>\n
Erie Brewing Company has been crafting beers since 1993, later adding their Knowledge Park location in Harborcreek Township.<\/p>\n
Burns\u2019 boss for the day greeted her at the front doors, and after clocking in, he immediately took her to the back of the house, where the magic happens.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou have everything from lifting kegs to hauling freight out of here, obviously filling kegs and things like that. I don\u2019t know if that would be your forte,\u201d said John Streeter, director of operations at Erie Brewing Company.<\/p>\n
Burns replied, \u201cI\u2019m strong.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cNo, definitely, I think more I see your creative side. I see you working with Rich, grabbing some of those ingredients and coming up with some new flavors,\u201d said Streeter.<\/p>\n
Head brewer Rich Britton said that\u2019s step number one.<\/p>\n
Crews here have been in the industry for years, and they told Burns in order to produce their one-of-a-kind recipes, you have to have a real passion for the work.<\/p>\n
Once they make the perfect beer formula, it\u2019s time to make it a reality.<\/p>\n
Britton explained that it\u2019s a science, but to put it simply \u2014 the process includes milling, boiling to create a sugar water called wort, adding hops and finally, they cool it down and send it to their cellar where they add yeast.<\/p>\n
After that is a lengthy process of fermentation.<\/p>\n
\u201cAfter 14 days, we get most of the yeast out, we get it back down to 32 degrees, we\u2019ll send it through here, and it\u2019s basically whipping it around,\u201d said Britton.<\/p>\n
And the very last thing before it reaches the customer\u2019s taste buds is bottling. That\u2019s also done on-site.<\/p>\n
Not only does the Knowledge Park location have enough room for storage and a loading dock, but they also have a brewpub, serving their award-winning craft beer and food along with self-guided tours, private rental spaces and more.<\/p>\n
With a perfect pour and taste of their signature scotch ale, Streeter believed that Burns was a natural behind the bar.<\/p>\n
\u201cI came up with the strawberry lemonade sours flavor. What exactly would you name that?\u201d asked Burns.<\/p>\n
\u201cWith those flavors, I would call it Jade\u2019s Best Day Ever,\u201d replied Streeter.<\/p>\n
\u201cWell, there ya go! Jade\u2019s Best Day Ever, coming to Erie Brewing Company soon,\u201d said Burns.<\/p>\n
