\n\t\t\t\t\t\tPatriotic fun is kicking off in Pittsburgh this weekend ahead of America\u2019s 250th birthday. “A lot of good things going on in the city. You don’t have to go too far to find an activity,\u201d Pattie Gamrat of Churchill said Friday. Musical artists Nelly, Third Eye Blind and Frzy will take the stage at Point State Park on Saturday for a free performance. The sold-out, ticketed event is part of the America250PA Commonwealth Concert Series. So far, four Pennsylvania cities have hosted big-name acts. Pittsburgh is the last city on the lineup. \u201cSo, the America250PA Commonwealth Concert Series was really a way for us to engage everyday Pennsylvanians and allow them to create the semi-quincentennial memories like so many have from the bicentennial and do that through a shared love of music,\u201d America250PA Executive Director Cassandra Coleman told Pittsburgh\u2019s Action News 4 Reporter Jordan Cioppa. Crews were hard at work on Friday, setting up for the event. Public access to Point State Park was closed at 9 p.m. after crews performed a sweep of the area and secured the perimeter. The park will reopen when the gates to the concert open at 5 p.m. on Saturday. Coleman said it took the help of several state and local agencies to make the concert happen. \u201cIt really was a team effort to bring this concert here, and we are just so excited to have an epic night,\u201d Coleman said. While Saturday marks the end of the concert series, it also marks the start of a long list of patriotic events in the Steel City, leading up to July 4. “I think Pittsburgh is a great place, especially for the outdoor events like this. Especially when we have the good weather, we really cherish it,\u201d Jahan Aslami said. Ticketholders will go through security and bag checks before entering the event.
