Two Reading women were charged with breaking into a home and assaulting two adult occupants, with one of the defendants also facing child endangerment counts after police said they found her kids unsupervised after she fled the incident.

Lavaneire T. Baker, 37, was arrested after police said the victims pointed her out to officers as she walked by the residence in the 1100 block of Buttonwood Street following the incident late Saturday.

The other suspect, identified as Baker’s cousin, Onyx Norwood, 32, who lives two doors away from the victims’ home, wasn’t caught, police said.

According to court records:

Police were called to the Buttonwood Street home shortly after 10:30 p.m. for a report of a burglary in progress. Officers learned that two women entered the home after kicking in the front door and began punching a man.

Baker also tried to hit the man on the top of the head with the base of an oscillating fan, while Norwood used the dislodged door latch to strike the victim multiple times.

A second male occupant confronted the women and was punched on the left side of the face by Norwood before she fled.

Police checked Norwood’s home and found several children unsupervised on the porch. Officers requested the children get their guardian, and while waiting they saw the three children in the backyard climbing over a wooden fence.

Officers conducted a security check of the interior of the home and confirmed the children were home alone. Court records didn’t provide the ages of the children.

Both defendants were charged with felony counts of burglary, criminal trespassing and conspiracy.

Baker of the 300 block of North Second Street was committed to Berks County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail to await a hearing following arraignment Sunday before District Judge David L. Yoch in Reading Central Court.

Norwood, who according to court records was not in custody as of Monday morning, was charged additionally with three counts of endangering the welfare of children.

Two Reading women were charged with breaking into a home and assaulting two adult occupants, with one of…

[11
349,202,182,139,28,736,128,130,129,706
post-231051","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-reading","tag-berks-county","tag-crime-and-public-safety","tag-local-news","tag-news","tag-pennsylvania","tag-reading","tag-reading-city","tag-reading-city-headlines","tag-reading-city-news","tag-top-stories-reg
["GET
