BERKS COUNTY, Pa.- Berks County officials are warning residents of ongoing scams who fake court violations for money.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Scammers impersonate officers and call victims to tell them they missed jury duty or did not appear in court, the Berks County District Attorney said in a Facebook post. \u00a0<\/p>\n

They pressure users into paying electronically with Bitcoin, cryptocurrency, or other forms of payment, according to the post.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Officials released a list of characteristics scammers often use, such as:\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Berks County District Attorney\u2019s Office said residents can identify a scammer since legitimate officers never call to demand payment over the phone.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Fines and other official papers are often sent through mail, according to the District Attorney\u2019s Office.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Berks County Sheriff\u2019s Office said it does not contact jurors who failed to arrive nor solicit money for those who did not appear for jury duty.\u00a0<\/p>\n

If you receive a suspicious call, hang up immediately and do not reveal any personal or financial information.\u00a0<\/p>\n
