READING, Pa.- The Berks County Area Agency is encouraging older adults to use the county\u2019s senior centers as cooling locations amid high temperatures.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The senior centers will operate normal business hours and offer water, information on heat safety resources and assistance programs, and more, the agency said in a news release.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cExtreme heat can be particularly dangerous for older adults, and no one should feel they have to face this weather alone,\u201d Katie Cathmark, the agency\u2019s deputy director, said.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Residents should stay hydrated, avoid outdoor activity during peak heat, and check on older adults, according to the report.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The agency said it will offer free fans for individuals over 60 at their Mohnton senior center.\u00a0<\/p>\n
