Loris City Council passed the final reading of its 2026-27 budget at a special called meeting Monday, June 29.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The $4,696,000 budget includes a property tax increase of 3 mills, or 50-cents for every $100,000 of assessed value of real estate The total levy on a home is 111 mills.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Currently, Loris homeowners pay $10.60 per $100,000 of assessed home value. That will increase to $11.10. \u00a0<\/p>\n
Loris Mayor Michael Suggs said the increase is for the retiring of bonds issued to pay for the “public safety building” which was approved by the city’s voters in a referendum.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The largest expenditures in the budget were for the Loris Police Department at $1,586,700 and Streets and Sanitation at $1,450,910.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Council also approved a $2.7 million water and sewer budget \u2014\u00a0with no fee increases.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Residential solid waste fees will increase $1 a month, due to an increase from the company that delivers that service to city residents.<\/p>\n
Councilman Lewis C. Hardee Jr. and\u00a0Councilwoman Tonya F.
