As the nation prepares to mark its 250th anniversary of independence later this week, fireworks businesses across the Philadelphia region are anticipating one of the busiest Independence Day seasons yet.<\/p>\n
At Phantom Fireworks of Upland in Chester County, individuals like Greg Field of Blackwood, New Jersey, were purchasing fireworks ahead of the holiday.<\/p>\n
Phantom Fireworks manager Dylan Stamm reports steady business in the days leading up to the Fourth of July. Stamm said fireworks products range from inexpensive sparklers to high-end boxed displays priced up to $500, including multi-shot shows with regulatory limits, such as a maximum of 60 grams of powder per shot.<\/p>\n
As sales for fireworks increase, safety remains a primary concern, particularly among first responders. At the Chester City Fire Department, firefighters report that calls often increase around the holidays.<\/p>\n
“Typically, we run more than five to 10 calls in a night. A lot of brush fires, trash fires, that kind of stuff, smoke in the area investigations,” said Deputy Fire Chief Christopher McBreen to 6abc.<\/p>\n
To ensure safety with fireworks displays, firefighters advise lighting fireworks in flat, open areas away from structures.
