Robertson, 24, is the younger brother of Jason Robertson of the Dallas Stars, in whom the Penguins are widely reported to have a strong interest. <\/p>\n
The small winger (5-foot-9, 180 pounds) burst onto the scene with a jaw-dropping training camp before the COVID bubble tournament. He set Toronto tongues wagging and played in four of those playoff games in an empty arena, but never landed a meaningful role with the Maple Leafs after that. <\/p>\n
After a few years of fighting to crack the lineup or average more than 12 minutes per game, he began requesting trades. For a few years, Robertson asked out of Toronto, but GMs held firm on a high price tag, and a deal never materialized. <\/p>\n
In fact, Elliotte Friedman reported in the summer of 2025 that the Columbus Blue Jackets rejected a Robertson for Egor Chinakhov deal. <\/p>\n
Last season, Robertson remained in a bottom-of-the-lineup role, with a career high of 12:40 of ice time per game. In 76 games, he scored 16 goals and 16 assists with a replicable 12.6% shooting percentage. <\/p>\n
Robertson is a restricted free agent with arbitration rights. He made $1.8 million last season. <\/p>\n
Oddly, Robertson\u2019s possession metrics fell significantly last season, from an average of 52% in his previous seasons down to 47%. <\/p>\n
Robertson is primarily a left-wing and quickly provides the Penguins with top-six insurance and top-nine scoring, if he claims the role. And it might not hurt that his brother is an elite player whom the Penguins are one of many teams actively trying to acquire.<\/p>\n
