BENSALEM TOWNSHIP, Pa. – Thirteen cars of a 72-car CSX train derailed today (Tuesday, June 30) in the Philadelphia suburb of Bensalem, leading to a shelter-in-place order and halting service on one Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority commuter line.<\/p>\n
The Bensalem Police Department said in a social media post<\/a> that the derailment was reported at about 2:21 p.m., and that the shelter-in-place order was established “out of an abundance of caution.” Three of the railcars involved were placarded for hazardous materials, but by 3:45 p.m., officials had confirmed none of those materials had been released, allowing the shelter-in-place order to be lifted.<\/p>\n No injuries were reported.<\/p>\n Regional Rail service on SEPTA’s West Trenton Line, suspended for much of the afternoon, resumed with outbound train No. 2336, a 5:47 p.m. departure from 30th Street Station, according to the SEPTA website<\/a>. SEPTA says trains are subject to delays and will bypass the Neshaminy Falls station, near the derailment scene, until further notice.<\/p>\n The derailment site is about 24 miles northeast of Center City Philadelphia.<\/p>\n
