In a letter addressed to the Mercyhurst community, Dr. Getz said while she knew she was joining a special university when she first arrived, she could not have fully appreciated the connections she would build along the way.<\/p>\n
Through classroom visits, campus events, and countless conversations, she said it was the people who made the experience truly memorable.<\/p>\n
Although university presidents are often associated with major initiatives such as budgets, building projects, and strategic plans, Dr. Getz emphasized that those are not the moments that stand out most to her.<\/p>\n
Instead, she said she will remember the individuals who shape campus life every day students discovering new opportunities, faculty sharing their passions, staff members keeping operations moving, and alumni and supporters strengthening the university\u2019s mission.<\/p>\n
Dr. Getz noted that the Mercyhurst community had a lasting impact on her, describing how members challenged and encouraged her while also bringing moments of joy and perspective to her role. She said those experiences reinforced her belief in the importance of higher education.<\/p>\n
Looking ahead, Dr. Getz expressed confidence in the university\u2019s future. She emphasized that Mercyhurst\u2019s strength does not come from any one individual, but from the collective dedication of those who teach, learn, and serve there.<\/p>\n
As the university enters its second century, Dr. Getz said she remains hopeful about what lies ahead. While challenges and opportunities may evolve, she pointed to the enduring values rooted in the Sisters of Mercy as a guiding foundation for the institution\u2019s continued success.<\/p>\n
Dr. Getz closed her message by thanking alumni and the broader Mercyhurst community for their support, partnership, and contributions. She said she leaves her role with deep gratitude, lasting memories, and confidence in the university\u2019s path forward.<\/p>\n
