Let’s get details on the alert day. Yes, let’s take *** look at your forecast for today because it’s going to be *** scorcher. We do have that extreme heat warning in effect starting at 120 today and continuing each day until 8:00 p.m. So though today, tomorrow, and Friday are all under that extreme heat warning. So what that means is we could see *** heat index 105 to 110 degrees. That’s when you factor in the high humidity. Those dew points are going to be in the 70s now. We’ve had *** couple of showers in northern Pennsylvania and one just clipping Lebanon and Lancaster counties. Take *** look at this. The shower right now, right over Africa, Denver, Terry Hill, New Holland, you might get *** sprinkle, but it’s nothing strong or severe, just *** little splash and dash shower. Temperature check. We are in the 70s, 76 degrees in York, 73 in Lewistown, 76 in Chambersburg, and look at the dew points in some spots they’re in the 70s and others. In the 60s, but I do expect more widespread dew points in the 70s, which is really going to add to our discomfort this afternoon. Here’s the 12 hour forecast. Notice that alerts begin after lunchtime and then we see that, uh, temperatures get into the upper 90s close to 100 today. Dispatchers say *** woman was stabbed and killed around 8:45 last night on Chambers Hill Road in Swadera Township. Now police are looking for *** man, Esteban Paulino Vegas. That’s his picture. These are Both of his pictures here. They say that he is *** person of interest who was seen running from that area. Police posted both of these pictures for you to see. They say that he was last seen wearing *** white tank top, gray sweatpants, and no shoes. They say he also may be suffering from *** mental health issue. So they say if you see him, do not approach him and call 911. It’s 4:34. *** 10-year-old boy in Dolphin County is now charged with stabbing *** Dollar Tree employee multiple times during an attempted robbery. This happened just after 5 o’clock Monday night at *** store on Paxton Street, according to Swaterra Township police. They say when their officers got there, store, employees were holding that boy. They say that he had walked into the store. With *** knife, threatened an employee and demanded money. And as other employees stepped in to help, that’s when one employee was stabbed. *** family is out of their home in Lebanon after the building partially collapsed. This happened on Lehman Street Monday afternoon. Christina Mojica is *** renter at the building. She tells us that she was inside when the building started to collapse. It sounded like two lightning bolts hitting, hitting the, the, the premises, and we jumped up. We were like, what’s that? The fire chief says this happened because of the age of the building and there was *** structural failure. The fire chief says Christina’s home is now condemned. She tells us her church is helping her. Pennsylvania’s budget will once again be late after Senate lawmakers left session yesterday without. Leaders striking *** deal with House Democrats. They appear to be at odds over state spending as *** whole, but also on whether to raise the minimum wage. Senate Majority Leader Joe Pittman says the budget will be passed after the 4th of July, but Democratic leaders say Senate Republicans walked away much too early this week. There will be pain. There will be discomfort at all levels, but we will meet in the middle. The Senate Republican majority is failing again, not leading, not working, not compromising, and most importantly, not finishing the job we’re all charged to do. We are charged to pass this budget. Shapiro, who initially proposed the $53.3 billion spending plan, says Senate Republicans decided to go home on vacation. Today’s stricter borrowing limits will take effect for student loans. Those changes are from the big beautiful bill that President Trump signed into law last July. Borrowers will now have two repayment options, *** standard plan and *** new repayment assistance plan. Under the standard plan, borrowers will have between 10 to 25 years to repay their loans depending on the amount borrowed. The new payment plan options only apply to students that are taking out new loans. The Department of Education says the changes will simplify repayment options and improve the federal student lending system, but critics worry the changes will make it harder for some to pay back the loans. The school district of Lancaster has hired back 15 staff members who were among dozens who were laid off or furloughed earlier this year. The school board approved the hiring of 14 teachers and 1 counselor. The staff members had lost their jobs when 92 positions were eliminated back in May. This was to help deal with that $35 million budget deficit in the district. Superintendent Keith Miles said in *** statement, quote, The circumstances that led to these staffing reductions were difficult, and Recognize the uncertainty they created for many employees. That’s why our focus has been to recall qualified staff whenever opportunities arise. Happening today, Republican state senator Don Kiefer is hosting *** virtual town hall to talk about *** proposed bill to eliminate school property taxes. Senator Kiefer represents parts of Cumberland and York counties. Lawmakers say that they are looking to replace the taxes by raising the sales tax. Instead. This is *** Republican proposal. They say residents will be able to call in and ask questions about this bill and share their thoughts about property taxes. We have *** registration link on our website, WGAL.com.
