A Pennsylvania Republican lawmaker says he was kicked off the floor of the state\u2019s House of Representatives for wearing an American flag-themed suit jacket ahead of the country\u2019s 250th birthday.<\/a><\/p>\n

Rep. Eric Davanzo was baffled Tuesday when Speaker Rep. Joanna McClinton ruled that his choice of attire went against the House rules and outrageously dubbed the suit a \u201ccostume.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cKicked off the floor for wearing a Patriotic jacket? That\u2019s right, it happened!\u201d Davanzo posted on his Facebook page. <\/p>\n

Davanzo, who represents Pennsylvania\u2019s 58th district in Westmoreland County, stood out among his fellow lawmakers after he opted for a red and white-striped jacket \u2013 which he said was bought by his wife Rachelle\u2013 and a star-themed tie.<\/p>\n

\u201cI will never apologize for putting patriotism before politics,\u201d Davanzo said. \u201cWe love our country. We love America, so I\u2019m happy to put this on. I\u2019m proud to wear this.<\/p>\n

Even lawmakers on the other side of the aisle approved of Davanzo\u2019s suit.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat is a very colorful jacket that the representative is wearing today. Very patriotic, I see, my friend,\u201d Rep. Jordan Harris (D-Philadelphia County) said.<\/p>\n

\u201cEverybody loved it,\u201d Davanzo said. \u201cThey come up, people gave me hugs, shaking my hands, \u2018Hey, this is great.\u201d<\/p>\n

Not everyone appreciated the lawmaker\u2019s eye-catching attire \u2013 especially McClinton, the first black speaker of the Pennsylvania house.<\/p>\n

He said he was happy to wear the attire. Eric Davanzo<\/p>\n

The pol said House Whip Mike Schlossberg (D-Lehigh County) gave him an ultimatum to either lose the jacket or leave the floor. <\/p>\n

Davanzo claimed that a security guard in the chamber repeated the order just a few minutes later. <\/p>\n

\u201cShe says it\u2019s a costume\u2026 He goes, yeah, it\u2019s something you wouldn\u2019t wear everyday,\u201d Davanzo said. \u201cAnd I\u2019m like, \u2018Listen, I would wear this back home and I\u2019m going to wear it again.<\/p>\n

\u201cAmerica\u2019s 250\u2026 It\u2019s a holiday weekend coming up. Why not wear it?\u201d<\/p>\n

McClinton\u2019s office stood by the decision to remove the pol despite the fury it generated.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe House Democrats came to Harrisburg this week to do the serious work of passing a responsible budget to benefit all Pennsylvanians,\u201d her office told NBC News.<\/a><\/p>\n

Lawmakers noted how Davanzo\u2019s outfit was colorful. Eric Davanzo<\/p>\n

Davanzo clapped back against Democrats, and it came as lawmakers failed to pass the state\u2019s budget on time for the fifth year in a row.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have an affordability crisis; people can\u2019t afford stuff,\u201d he told WHP<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cInstead of coming out here and doing the people\u2019s work, no, what are we focused on? We\u2019re focused on bulls\u2013t issues like this jacket, right? No reason whatsoever.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis wasn\u2019t a costume. This is something that I truly believe in. I\u2019m a patriot.\u201d<\/p>\n

Davanzo, a dad to two daughters Brianna and Brielle, first won election to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 2020, defeating Robert Prah Jr by almost 9,000 votes.<\/p>\n

His margin of victory in 2022 against Ken Bach was a little tighter \u2013 7,335 \u2013 before comprehensively defeating union nurse Cherri Rogers by more than 14,000 votes two years later.\u00a0<\/p>\n

He will face off against Rogers again this November for election to the 58th District \u2013 a constituency which includes the former steel town of Monessen.<\/p>\n

Davanzo was unchallenged in this year\u2019s Republican primary.<\/p>\n

During his six years in the house, he has backed laws that champion family-sustained jobs, improving infrastructure, and giving children a quality education.<\/p>\n

He passed a law \u2013 Act 7 of 2022 \u2013 that dedicates part of State Route 31 to John Beyrand, who was killed in action in Vietnam in August 1967 \u2014 a little over a year after he started his tour.<\/p>\n
