AT THE TIME, THE VOTE WAS UNANIMOUS, WITH ONLY NEW YORK ABSTAINING, AND JOHN ADAMS WROTE THAT HE FELT THE DAY WOULD BE CELEBRATED AS THE MOST MEMORABLE IN THE HISTORY OF AMERICA.
