We\u2019ve got <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amrevmuseum.org\/collection\/washington-s-war-tent\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">General<\/a> Washington\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amrevmuseum.org\/collection\/washington-s-war-tent\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">tent<\/a> from the Revolution, his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amrevmuseum.org\/general-george-washington-s-military-family#:~:text=2.,the%20end%20of%20the%20war.\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">luggage<\/a> bag, his green-hilted <a href=\"https:\/\/www.si.edu\/object\/george-washingtons-battle-sword-and-scabbard%3Anmah_434865\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Bailey<\/a> Sword, and the First Rhode Island Regimental <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amrevmuseum.org\/exhibits\/banners-of-liberty-an-exhibition-of-original-revolutionary-war-flags\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Banner<\/a>. We\u2019ve even got what is probably <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/history\/2025\/06\/13\/cornwallis-sword-washington-revolutionary-war\/#:~:text=It%20was%20the%20sword%20that,York%20River%20in%20southeastern%20Virginia.\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Lord<\/a> Cornwallis\u2019s surrender sword from the Battle of Yorktown.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Cornwallis\u2019 sword can even still be seen in Philadelphia in the Museum of the American Revolution. Claiming illness, Cornwallis sent General O\u2019Hara who in-turn tried to surrender to French General Count de Rochambeau, who had spent time with his army in Philadelphia. Rochambeau directed O\u2019Hara to General Washington.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Almost immediately right after its ratification, the Declaration of Independence was being shared in Philadelphia. For nearly two days, American-Irish printer John Dunlap printed some two hundred of those still-surviving 26 copies today, the Pennsylvania Evening Post ran it in the paper for Philadelphians to read, and public readings of America\u2019s freedom popped up across the city.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And while you can\u2019t get back to 1776 without one of those time machines like in Back to the Future (don\u2019t invest in a DeLorean only for that reason), you can take in a glimpse of some rare history in Philadelphia during this spring and summer. And it\u2019s not in Independence Hall as you might expect.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is the first full week to take in an exhibit in Center City that you\u2019d be hard pressed to find anywhere else. On display in the American Philosophy Society right next to Independence Hall is an exhibit running until January of 2027 called These Truths: The Declarations of Independence, which features nineteen rare copies of the Declaration printed between 1776 and 1826.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Also on display are a map that hung in Independence Hall during the Second Continental Congress, the chair that Thomas Jefferson utilized to write the Declaration, and Thomas Paine\u2019s \u201cCommon Sense.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Philadelphia got more than just Lord Cornwallis\u2019 sword from Yorktown. The moment was captured to be enjoyed around the globe by none other than Philadelphia resident and artist Charles Willson Peale.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Michael Thomas Leibrandt lives and works in Abington, Pennsylvania.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"If you love rare artifacts from the American Revolution, then Philadelphia is a must.
