Trooper Pahira was dragged by the tractor-trailer \u201cfor some time\u201d and suffered severe injuries.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">According to the affidavit, the driver of the tractor-trailer, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/news\/us\/articles\/man-accused-killing-state-trooper-005929823.html\" data-ylk=\"elm:link;elmt:article_link;slk:33-year-old Michael Bon;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;outcm:mb_qualified_link;_E:mb_qualified_link;ct:story;\" data-yga=\"{&quot;yLinkElement&quot;:&quot;context_link&quot;,&quot;yModuleName&quot;:&quot;content-canvas&quot;,&quot;yLinkText&quot;:&quot;33-year-old Michael Bon&quot;}\" class=\"link  yahoo-link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">33-year-old Michael Bon<\/a>, veered off the roadway onto the right shoulder and struck the other truck and Trooper Pahira, who was pinned underneath the front bumper.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Immediately after the crash, the truck Bon was operating, engulfed in flames.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">After a forensic unit investigated the crash, they determined the following, as stated in court documents:<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cIt should be noted that the portion of Interstate 81 where this crash occurred is a straight roadway with no defects or adverse weather conditions. The tractor-trailer that was struck and Trooper Pahira\u2019s vehicle were parked safely off the travel lanes\u2026meaning Bon\u2019s vehicle would have had to leave the lane of travel to strike Trooper Pahira, his vehicle, and the tractor-trailer.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Bon is set to face homicide by vehicle, aggravated assault by a vehicle, and various other related charges.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Copyright 2026 Nexstar Media, Inc.
