With the humidity sticking around for the Fourth of July weekend, the Lehigh Valley will likely get hit with more storms and rain Sunday.<\/p>\n
The National Weather Service in Mount Holly, New Jersey has issued a flood watch, going into effect at 2 p.m. Sunday and lasting until 8 p.m. Monday.<\/p>\n
\u201cA Flood Watch has been issued for a large portion of the area from around the urban corridor northward beginning this afternoon as we are growing increasingly concerned about flash flooding this afternoon through Monday,\u201d the NWS said Sunday in its forecast discussion.<\/p>\n
The weather service put the Lehigh Valley at a moderate risk of flash flooding, meaning there is a 40% chance excessive rainfall could lead to flash flooding. Thunderstorms will be capable of producing rainfallrates greater than 2 inches per hour, according to the weather service.<\/p>\n
That warning is being paired with a continued heat advisory that is in effect until 8 p.m. Sunday.<\/p>\n
The weather service said there is a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall with amounts ranging between a quarter- and half-of-an-inch. Otherwise, it will be mostly cloudy, with a high near 87 degrees with a calm wind. The chance of precipitation is 40%.<\/p>\n
The greatest threat for storms are along the Interstate 78 corridor southward, the weather service said. The weather service\u2019s severe weather outlook map shows the Lehigh Valley at a slight risk of experiencing severe storms.<\/p>\n
Isolated to scattered severe thunderstorms are possible. In addition to the potential for flooding, the storms could also produce gusty winds.<\/p>\n
\u201cImpacts from prolonged heat and humidity will continue today even though the high temperatures and max heat indices will not be as high as recent days,\u201d forecasters said in the discussion.<\/p>\n
Rain should continue overnight, even more storms are expected on Monday with instances of flash flooding in urban and lower lying areas.<\/p>\n
Showers and thunderstorms are predicted to begin before 8 a.m. with a chance of more precipitation later in the morning. New rainfall amounts are expected to be between a half- and three-quarters of an inch. The high will be near just 74, nearly 30 degrees cooler than the temperatures of the last few days.<\/p>\n
