TINICUM TWP., Pa. (WPVI) — A wild chase came to a dramatic end in Delaware County after, police say, four suspects jumped into a pond after crashing a stolen car.<\/p>\n
They were all eventually arrested.<\/p>\n
It all started with a report of the suspects stealing from a car in Drexel Hill. Keith Haury made the initial call.<\/p>\n
“I hear a metal hit the ground. I’m like, ‘What was that?’ I look outside and I see one kid in my driveway checking my car and the other kid is in my car going through it. So I ran outside, I start chasing at them. They all jump in that car and take off,” Haury said.<\/p>\n
Startled but steadfast, Haury tried to chase four thieves down himself after they stole his keys, wallet and the bulletproof vest he has from his EMT job out of his parked car on Alexander Avenue.<\/p>\n
They took off in a stolen Kia SUV with New Jersey plates.<\/p>\n
After ditching the Kia they allegedly stole a black Dodge Durango in Prospect Park Borough.<\/p>\n
The vehicle eventually crashed on Governor Printz Boulevard near the Delta Hotels by Marriott.<\/p>\n
After the crash, police say four people ran from the vehicle and jumped into a large pond in an attempt to evade police.<\/p>\n
There was a massive police presence, including K-9s. With Upper Darby police taking the lead, it was a quick collar.<\/p>\n
“I’ll use one word – dumb – to jump into that cold water, and they didn’t last,” said Police Superintendent Timothy Bernhardt<\/p>\n
Police say 18-year-old Avalro Rivera was driving the stolen Durango. He had a warrant out of Philadelphia for receiving stolen property.<\/p>\n
Authorities say 18-year-oldBryan DeLaCruz-Reyes was a passenger. He had a warrant out of Montgomery County for larceny and theft.<\/p>\n
The other two occupants were juveniles, one as young as 14.<\/p>\n
“Young kids out that time of night, not even in the same state. They’re in Pennsylvania, Delaware County, committing these types of thefts and it won’t be tolerated,” Bernhardt said.<\/p>\n
Police say the suspects, all from Camden County, New Jersey, will be charged with a number of felonies.<\/p>\n
“You don’t come to Delaware County to do stuff and think you’re not going to get caught. It’s a strong place, we have strong police departments and it all came together last night,” said Haury.<\/p>\n
