(WOLF) — More than 23,000 customers across Northeastern Pennsylvania remained without electricity Monday morning, nearly two days after powerful thunderstorms swept through the region, toppling trees, bringing down power lines and disrupting Fourth of July celebrations.

The storms moved through Saturday evening and night, producing damaging winds that left widespread damage across the region. Since then, utility crews have been working around the clock to restore service.

According to PPL Electric Utilities, 23,154 customers in the region were still without power as of the latest update. Monroe County continues to have the highest number of outages, followed by Lackawanna and Luzerne counties.

Across PPL’s entire service territory, more than 117,000 customers were still without electricity Monday morning, with the largest concentrations of outages now located in central and southeastern Pennsylvania.

PPL’s outage map provides estimated restoration times for individual outages rather than a single systemwide restoration deadline. Those estimates vary depending on the extent of the damage and can be viewed by selecting a specific outage on the company’s online map. The utility says crews are prioritizing repairs that restore power to the largest number of customers first before moving to smaller neighborhood outages.

The utility is also offering reimbursement for customers who have been without power because of the storms. Eligible customers may purchase up to three 10-pound bags of ice and three gallons of water per day from any local vendor and mail their receipts, along with their PPL account number, to:

PPL Electric Utilities
Attn: Ice and Water
827 Hausman Road
Allentown, PA 18104

Purchases beyond those daily limits are not eligible for reimbursement.

Residents are urged to stay away from downed power lines, assume every line is energized and report outages or hazardous conditions directly to their electric utility. PPL advises staying at least 100 feet away from any downed wire.

FOX56 outage tracker

CountyCurrent outagesand largest affected municipalities

Monroe8,006—Pocono Township, Price Township, Barrett Township, Stroud TownshipLackawanna4,668—Carbondale, Clifton Township, Ransom TownshipLuzerne3,275—Dennison Township, Pittston, Exeter Township, Wilkes-BarrePike2,187—Shohola Township, Blooming Grove TownshipWayne2,169—Dreher Township, Salem TownshipSchuylkill1,842—Tremont Borough, Schuylkill TownshipColumbia 392Susquehanna 48Carbon 361

NEPA Total23,154—

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE CO.
