In just a few days, the NHL world will be able to move forward from the Leo Carlsson-Philadelphia Flyers drama, and the NHL trade market will begin moving again. A handful of days into the frenzy, we re-adjusted the Pittsburgh Penguins trade board with still-available targets and realistic potentials befitting what the Penguins want to do. Elsewhere in the Daily, general managers have reason to get nervous with their restricted free agents, and the Columbus Blue Jackets are working to lock up Adam Fantilli before they get broadsided with a mega offer. Finally, ESPN believes a Metro Division team is the offseason winner. <\/p>\n
I wish I were tired of the Carlsson saga, but I\u2019m not. We\u2019re witnessing a game-changing offseason in which GMs are finally breaking the gentleman\u2019s agreement that made summer kind of boring. After all, so many times in the last decade of my heavy lifting in starting PHN, we\u2019ve written about potential RFA targets, but knew deep down that it was virtually impossible to offer sheet those players. All bets are off now. <\/p>\n

For the record, I listened to 32 Thoughts and the talk about Elias Pettersson. Let us be 100%, crystal, abundantly, absolutely clear that Elliotte Friedman did not report trade talks between the Penguins and Vancouver for Pettersson. He mused that Pettersson would fit with the Penguins. That\u2019s a big\u2026massive\u2026HUGE difference. But I suspect that horse is already out of the barn and galloping through many imaginations as a bona fide trade rumor. But it\u2019s not.<\/p>\n
However, for those of you who listened to it, Friedman amplified some of what we\u2019ve been yelling into the abyss: The Penguins\/Kyle Dubas are building a nice pipeline, and there are some good young players on the way, even if a few don\u2019t make the leap.<\/p>\n

A week ago, no one batted an eye, but now the Columbus Blue Jackets have left chum in the water and are working to get Fantilli signed before the sharks attack. That\u2019s sharks with a lowercase s. Aaron Portzline laid out the potential lines for next season, but also reports the unease in Columbus<\/a>.<\/p>\n Yeah, the young and up-and-coming teams weren\u2019t supposed to be the ones raided by RFA offer sheets. But life never adheres to expectations, does it?<\/p>\n NHLtraderumors.me: Morgan Reilly is still a Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman, but both sides expect a trade this summer. When Anaheim is done swallowing the bitter Carlsson pill, will they finally acquire Reilly<\/a>?<\/p>\n ESPN: Emily Kaplan has a clear winner to the offseason, and she thinks the Washington Capitals have lapped the field with Jordan Kyrou and Alex Tuch. While the contract to Vincent Desharnais was a real headscratcher, she\u2019s not wrong about the main idea<\/a>.<\/p>\n And Alex Ovechkin is saying he might want to play another year beyond 2026-27. And I say, at some point, GMs have to pull these generational players aside and tell them no.
