SIOUX CITY (KTIV) – If you didn\u2019t get enough patriotism during the Fourth of July, an upcoming event will surely spark your interest. <\/p>\n
The Sioux City Public Museum and the Martha Washington Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) are expected to host a public reading of the Declaration of Independence at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, July 8, at the Sioux City Public Museum. <\/p>\n
The museum says the DAR chapter is organizing \u201csimultaneous national readings\u201d of the Declaration of Independence in every state to mark the 250th Anniversary of the first public reading of the Declaration of Independence. <\/p>\n
Event organizers say these simultaneous readings are intended to recreate the tension and excitement of the first readings of the historic document. <\/p>\n
\u201cIn 1776, Thomas Jefferson ordered that several copies of the Declaration of Independence be printed,\u201d said the museum, \u201cHorseback riders raced to take their copy of the document to towns and cities in the colonies, reading it at the town square for all to hear. This meant that several days or more passed before the colonists heard the Declaration.\u201d <\/p>\n
The event\u2019s costumed readers are Elizabeth Rosenbaum, a local attorney and DAR member and Gregory Giles, a local financial advisor. <\/p>\n
