Bethlehem, NY (WRGB) \u2014 The Bethlehem Town Board has paused a proposal to change the town’s zoning code.<\/p>\n

The now paused plans include changing zoning in some residential areas to allow small apartment buildings. Those buildings would have a maximum of six multi-family units, with no more than seven such buildings per acre and a limit of two stories in height.<\/p>\n

The plans worried residents in the hamlet of Glenmont<\/a>, who told CBS6 they were worried the changes would alter the character of their neighborhood. <\/p>\n

Those concerns were mentioned in the Town’s statement on Wednesday afternoon.<\/p>\n

The Town Board has listened carefully to the community’s feedback regarding the zoning code proposal submitted by the Planning Board, not just to what residents have been saying, but to the concerns behind those comments. Rather than moving the plan forward as currently drafted, the Town Board will take a pause this summer, as many residents have asked, to take additional time to review key elements of the proposal and make recommendations for moving forward this fall to respond to some of the themes we have heard. Thank you to the hundreds of neighbors and residents who have attended meetings, submitted comments, and participated in this process. Your input has been an important part of this review.
