IF KROGER\u2019S TAKES OVER ALL THE GIANT EAGLE EMPLOYEES AND EVERYTHING STAYS THE SAME, SERVICE STAYS THE SAME, NOTHING MOVES. YOU KNOW, TO ME THEY AIN\u2019T GOING TO CHANGE LOCATIONS. ACCORDING TO OFFICIALS WITH GIANT EAGLE, AS PART OF THIS, $1.65 BILLION DEAL, GIANT EAGLE WILL CONTINUE TO RUN THE SUPERMARKETS, MAINTAIN THEIR PERKS, LOYALTY PROGRAM AND OPERATE UNDER THE SAME LEADERSHIP. HOWEVER, ACCORDING TO KROGER\u2019S ANNOUNCEMENT, TO OBTAIN THE REGULATORY CLEARANCES NECESSARY, THEY EXPECT TO HAVE LIMITED DIVESTITURES AND ACKNOWLEDGMENT THAT FOR GOVERNMENT APPROVAL, SOME GIANT EAGLE\u2019S MAY NEED TO BE SOLD. AND THERE ARE QUESTIONS ABOUT KROGER\u2019S RETURN. KROGER PULLED OUT OF PITTSBURGH IN 1984 AFTER A DISAGREEMENT BETWEEN THE UNION AND MANAGEMENT RESULTED IN MASSIVE STRIKES. BACK THEN, GIANT EAGLE BOUGHT THEIR STORES. NOW, MORE THAN 40 YEARS LATER, KROGER WANTS TO COME BACK, THIS TIME BUYING GIANT EAGLE. WE SPOKE TO THE UNION REPRESENTING THE EMPLOYEES BACK THEN, AND NOW WE HAVE A CONTRACT IN PLACE RIGHT NOW THAT COVERS US FOR ABOUT THREE MORE YEARS. WE JUST NEGOTIATED A FOUR YEAR CONTRACT A YEAR AGO. THE THOSE ARE GOING TO REMAIN IN PLACE. BUT AS KROGER TAKES OVER MORE OPERATIONAL CONTROL, OBVIOUSLY, YOU KNOW, WE\u2019RE CONCERNED ABOUT THE UNKNOWN AND A LITTLE BIT OF THE UNKNOWN. YOU KNOW, THEY\u2019RE THEY\u2019RE LET\u2019S JUST SAY, CHALLENGING TO DEAL WITH. AND SO WE\u2019RE GOING TO DO EVERYTHING WE CAN TO MAKE SURE THAT OUR CURRENT CONTRACTS ARE ARE HONORED. AND, AND, YOU KNOW, BE PREPARED FOR WHATEVER COMES DOWN THE ROAD. MUCH OF THAT REMAINS TO BE SEEN.
