NORRISTOWN \u2014 A Philadelphia man is awaiting his fate from a judge on charges he fled from police during an attempted traffic stop on the Schuylkill Expressway in Lower Merion Township and subsequently found to be in illegal possession of a stolen gun.<\/p>\n
Khiry Elijah Flowers, 28, of the 7100 block of Germantown Avenue, pleaded guilty in Montgomery County Court to felony charges of person not to possess a firearm, receiving stolen property and fleeing or eluding police in connection with an August 2025 incident on Interstate 76, also known as the Schuylkill Expressway, in Lower Merion.<\/p>\n
Judge Steven T. O\u2019Neill deferred sentencing so that court officials can complete a background investigation report about Flowers, who will undergo drug, alcohol and mental health evaluations.<\/p>\n
Flowers potentially faces up to a maximum sentence of 6 to 12 years in prison on the charges. However, state sentencing guidelines could allow for a lesser sentence.<\/p>\n
Flowers remains in the county jail without bail while awaiting his sentencing hearing.<\/p>\n
An investigation began about 12:05 a.m. Aug. 5, 2025, when state police from the Philadelphia barracks observed a 2009 Audi sedan, operated by Flowers, traveling in the westbound lanes of the Schuylkill Expressway in Lower Merion and attempted to stop the vehicle for a lane violation by activating emergency lights and siren.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe vehicle briefly began to decelerate, however then began to speed up and flee. The vehicle failed to subsequently yield to the emergency equipment,\u201d state police Trooper Maximilian Baptiste alleged in the arrest affidavit, adding that during the pursuit there were other vehicles on the highway. \u201cThe operator conducted numerous evasive maneuvers in attempt to outdistance\/evade police.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Audi reached speeds in excess of 100 mph in an area where the speed limit is posted 55 mph, police alleged.<\/p>\n
The Audi exited the highway at Conshohocken, failed to negotiate the curve and crashed, disabling the vehicle, court documents indicate.<\/p>\n
Flowers, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was taken into custody at the scene.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe defendant admitted to fleeing from law enforcement due to being in possession of a firearm, not having a driver\u2019s license and having a warrant for their arrest,\u201d Baptiste alleged.<\/p>\n
Police recovered a Taurus G3 pistol from Flowers\u2019 pocket. The pistol had been previously reported stolen, according to court documents.<\/p>\n
With the charges, police alleged Flowers had a criminal history that included a robbery conviction, which prohibited him from possessing a firearm.<\/p>\n
Police determined that Flowers\u2019 operating privileges had been suspended in Pennsylvania.<\/p>\n
Police added that Flowers was wanted for an alleged probation violation in Philadelphia and for failing to appear for a court proceeding in Cape May County, N.J., according to court documents.<\/p>\n
Other charges of carrying a firearm without a license, recklessly endangering others, reckless and careless driving, speeding and driving under suspension are slated to be dismissed against Flowers at the time of sentencing.<\/p>\n
Assistant District Attorney Paul Pruitt is handling the case. Defense lawyer George M.
