A 75-year-old homeowner is being held for questioning after a 20-year-old construction worker was shot and killed<\/a> while working at a home in Philadelphia’s Roxborough neighborhood on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

Philadelphia police identified the victim as Salis Hanrahan.<\/p>\n

Witnesses told NBC10 the shooting happened around 2 p.m. on July 8, 2026, while construction workers were installing siding on the home on the 400 block of Ripka Street. They said workers heard some type of argument inside the house.<\/p>\n

Police said Hanrahan walked out of the home moments later and collapsed on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound to the chest. He died a short time later.<\/p>\n

Investigators reported recovering a firearm at the scene.<\/p>\n

Neighbors said they were stunned by the violence on their normally quiet block and said the homeowner is a retired firefighter, veteran and longtime resident.<\/p>\n

“He’s always friendly. Every time I’ve encountered him,” neighbor Erin Kelly said. “It’s just crazy that it happened here. It’s always quiet here, so for something to happen like this, it just shocked us all,<\/p>\n

Neighbors said construction crews had been working at the home for several days without any problems, making the shooting difficult to understand.<\/p>\n

“It’s terrible. Every time we walk by that spot it’s going to be with us for a long time,” neighbor Coleen Daily said.<\/p>\n

As of Thursday, no charges had been filed against the homeowner.<\/p>\n
