New information has been released in Erie\u2019s first homicide investigation of the year.<\/p>\n
Erie County Coroner Lyell Cook has identified the victim as 61-year-old Frederick Torrence, who died after being shot earlier this week in east Erie.<\/p>\n
According to Cook, Torrence died from a gunshot wound to the chest. The shooting occurred near 11th and Brandes streets.<\/p>\n
Erie Police Chief Rick Lorah said the victim was sitting inside his vehicle when a suspect approached and fired multiple rounds through the vehicle’s front windshield.<\/p>\n
Investigators say Torrence then drove his vehicle toward the suspect, striking the suspect’s vehicle. Chief Lorah said the suspect then fired several more shots into the victim’s vehicle.<\/p>\n
The victim continued driving before crashing his vehicle approximately a block away from the scene.<\/p>\n
Police have not released information about the suspect or any other arrests made at this time.<\/p>\n
The Erie Police Department’s investigation remains ongoing as detectives continue gathering evidence and working to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting.<\/p>\n
